Carolyn Ann Pannell

May 3, 1943June 29, 2019

Carolyn Ann Pannell passed away early morning June 29th, 2019.

Service: 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019 at Faith Bible Church located at 1437 W. Pleasant Run Rd. DeSoto, TX

Carolyn was born on May 3rd, 1943 in Ada, Oklahoma to Fred and Virginia Roden.

She was the 2nd oldest of 7 brothers and 2 sisters. She liked to say she was her oldest brother’s first birthday present. There are lots of stories of how she kept her brothers in line, including knocking her brother’s knuckles with a knife as they washed dishes. She loved school, reading, and worked in the drugstore soda fountain.

On July 6th, 1961, she married Jim Pannell. They met the summer before when Jim worked as the lifeguard at the city pool. They spent the first couple of years of their marriage back and forth between El Paso and Ada while Jim taught high school. Their son, Dale, was born July of 1963 in Ada, OK during their summer break. In April 1966, their daughter, Becky, was born in El Paso. A couple of years later, the family moved to Dallas where, after a few moves, they settled in Duncanville.

As a family, they took many vacations, which always meant long car rides, but sweet times together. Carolyn and Jim were strong in their faith, believing in Jesus as their Savior and Lord. They were involved together in teaching Sunday School classes and serving in any way they could. Carolyn and Jim did everything together and their love for each other was obvious to everyone around them. She dedicated her life to serving her family and her Lord.

Off and on, Carolyn would use her gifts to work as a bookkeeper. She loved numbers, walking, puzzles, and playing board games. She earned the nickname, “Aggravator”, due to her competitiveness in the game Aggravation.

In 1988, she became a Nana to her first grandson. This was a role that she loved and took very seriously. Her grandchildren knew how much she loved them, and she was always around to attend their sports games, take them shopping, or even spend a week with them when their parents were out of town.

She lived long enough to know her first 2 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her late parents, 2 brothers and her beloved husband, Jim.

Survivors: Brother Jerry Roden and his wife Sharon, Sister Sue Hankins, Brother Ken Roden and his wife Bobbie, Sister Mary Pruitt and her husband Jim, Brother Ronald, Brother Paul and Brother Joe. Son, Dale and his wife Wendy and their children, Haleigh (husband Bryce and daughter Brynja), Brianna, Josh, Blake, Kayleen, and James. Daughter Becky and her husband Charlie McAllister and their children, Andrew (wife Lauren and son Everett), Matt, Logan (wife Ellie), and Luke. Her loyal dog, Sammy. And numerous loving family and special friends.

Carolyn & Jim were our neighbors in Duncanville & our 2 families enjoyed good times together & were frequent visitors to each other's homes. We also attended the same church. Carolyn always had a firm hand & a twinkle in her eye. Dale & Becky were such cute kids & Jim was very smart. I have many fond memories of Carolyn...
