

Eleanor Joan Ruble Stewart, 87, passed peacefully in her home on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. She was born March 8, 1928 in Webster Groves, Missouri to Leslie Sinclair Ruble and Ruth Dieckmann Ruble. Eleanor graduated from Washington University in St Louis where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She moved to Dallas, Texas in 1951 where she met and later married her husband of 62 years, John Hamilton Stewart, on September 6, 1952. Eleanor became a member of Asbury Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and helped organize and taught in that church’s first day school kindergarten. In 1965 she and her husband moved to Duncanville, Texas, where she moved her membership to and taught Sunday School in the First United Methodist Church of Duncanville. In 1968, she organized and became the first director of the church’s day school kindergarten, where she taught and directed for eight years. Eleanor volunteered for the Duncanville Outreach Ministry for ten years. She was a volunteer in the Medical Records Department of Charlton Methodist Hospital from 1979 to 2009, a period of 30 years with 10,625 service hours! Eleanor was an avid Texas Rangers baseball and Dallas Cowboys football fan. She and her family greatly enjoyed camping during summer vacation trips. She loved gardening, all types of crafts, dollhouse building, reading, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and family “game nights.” Eleanor is survived by son David Stewart, daughter Sherry Bird and her husband Chip, three grandchildren Kevin Bird and his wife Rebecca, Kelsey Bird, Kaycie Bird and two great-grandchildren Zachary Bird and Katie Bird. She is also survived by sister Judy Teasdale and sister-in-law Benita Brown. Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband, John Stewart, her sisters-in-law Agnes Arwood and Laverne Stewart, her brothers-in-law Dock Stewart and Dave Teasdale. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 10:00am at the Chapel of First United Methodist Church of Duncanville with burial at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville.
