Jerry Owen Jones

Jones, Jerry Owen “Sparky” of Midlothian, Tx. Born July 4, 1944 and died August 29, 2019. Survived by wife and best friend of 18 years, Dorothy Jones, daughter Kim Mock/Carl of Keller, son Alan Jones of Rowlett, sister Janine Simpson of Mt Vernon, grandson Corey Jones/Caitlin, step-sons Benny Holloway/Cile, Larry Holloway/Pam, Richard Markle/Pam step-daughters Rita Murphy/Jim, & Gaylyn Butler/Wilson, many step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, W.E. “Dub” Jones and Della Mae “Dee” Jones Rothrock. Jerry was born in Tuscon, AZ during his father’s service in WWII. He spent his childhood in the Oakhurst section of Ft. Worth. The family relocated to Duncanville in 1953 and started the Western Auto store where Jerry worked with his dad. He graduated Duncanville High School and The University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in Finance/Accounting. Jerry married his high school sweetheart Carole Henley in 1963, and they raised their kids in Duncanville and DeSoto. He began his career as a Trust Officer with Oak Cliff Bank & Trust, and later became Controller for Gulf Oil and Groco Paint Mfg. Later, Jerry got his real estate license and brokered rural county land. In 1999, he married his best friend, Dorothy Smith. Before retiring in 2006, he worked with rocket components at DIAB in DeSoto. During retirement he enjoyed remodeling his rental properties, playing Texas Hold ‘em at the VFW and American Legion, and trips with Dorothy to Laughlin where he competed in tournaments. He was an avid reader with particular interest in WWII, a hunter and fisherman, loved to camp, boat and be outdoors. Jerry was very ill for many years, rebounding from many hospital stays. He fought a great, hard fight.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm Friday September 6, 2019 at David Clayton & Sons Funeral Home 200 W. Center St. Duncanville, TX 75116.
