Like a brother to me since I moved to Dallas in fourth grade thru our graduation from Adamson HS. He was always there for we Oak Cliff Boys. I will see him again in Heaven one day. Lin Oakley Jr.

Rusty was one of the best of the Oak Cliff boys.  I never met anyone who didn't like him. He was a great role model for those of us at James Bowie as well as Adamson.  I will miss him dearly.  My thoughts and prayers are with Carla and family.  Mike Poole, Class of 1965

Prayers and thoughts to you and your family.  So sorry to hear of your loss.  Only met Rusty briefly but heard of your many beautiful trips in the past when I came to visit my friend Patt, your next door neighbor.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers.  John was a great friend and wonderful man. I have some many memories of John! When I would have a bad day, I would walk over to his office and ask him to sing me a song.  He would make up some funny song that would just make you smile!  John will surely be missed.

Carla, sending our thoughts and prayers for your loss.  I have fond memories of Rusty while we were all at Tommy's office.

My best memory of my neighbor Rusty is of the many spring and summer mornings, when I would be in my front yard working in my flower beds; he would open his front door and send his black Lab, Maggie, out to fetch the newspaper.  Maggie would gallop out, tail wagging in delight, and would be so enthusiastic that sometimes she would overshoot her target and have to turn around and come back for it.  It was such a funny sight, I would just sit on the ground laughing, waving to Rusty as he sternly called Maggie to come back in. He would wave back at me and then I would go on about my day, feeling cheered up. I don't know if it occurred to Rusty that sending Maggie out for the paper was an act of kindness, but it was.  It made his dog tremendously happy and it made me happy too. It was just one of those small things he did that made the world better and more blessed, and which will not be forgotten.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you today.

To my brother of 59 years. Sharing our time together as friends since 3rd grade has been true blessing from GOD.  He will be missed by so many but touched so many lives in such a positive way. I will never forget the great times together at Bowie Elementary and Adamson HS.  A true ICON of LOVE to his family and friends. YOU WILL BE MISSED MY BROTHER.

I am a better person for having been loved by Rusty. His hugs & kisses meant the world to me. He changed my heart for the better & welcomed me into his family with compassion & honor.

JR and I are so sad to hear of John's passing.  He was a very special man and will be missed not only by all of you, but by all of us who have known him through the years.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Jim and I will miss Rusty so much.  He and Jim were the same age, though Rusty was his uncle.  They got up to many shenanigans as boys, and Rusty was best man at our wedding.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers.  John was a wonderful man.   His legacy will be remembered for a long time.  (Especially all of the laughter that he brought to us).   Love you guys.
