Sue Gullion Watkins (Susie Kate), 97, was born May 30, 1919, in Bogata, Texas, the fifth of six children of Fieldon and Charlie Gullion, and went to her heavenly home on December 14, 2016. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19, 11:00 a.m., at David Clayton & Sons Funeral Home in Duncanville, Texas. She will be laid to rest in Seagoville, Texas. She attended Paris Junior College and graduated from the University of North Texas. She went on to receive a master’s degree from Texas A&M Kingsville. She was an elementary school teacher, spending most of her last years teaching special education in Arlington, McCamey, Big Spring and Duncanville. She resided at Wisteria Place in Abilene since 2008. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Albert Watkins, Jr., and her son Paul Watkins, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her sons, Albert III and his wife, Lea, of Abilene, Texas, and Philip Watkins of Duncanville, Texas; two grandchildren, Amy Irby of Carrollton and Rob Watkins of Brooklyn, NY, and two great-grandchildren, and Art and Judy Lynch of North Richland Hills, Texas, and their children and grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends. Her faith in Jesus Christ was the strength that saw her through every adversity she had to face in life. Sue loved to read the Bible – it was her favorite book. She read it cover-to-cover many times. She also had a great love of singing. Her father was a barbershop tenor. Sue memorized many hymns, as well as popular songs from her day. She sang in the Wheelchair Choir at Wisteria Place until the time of the death. The family would like to thank Dr. Toby Williams for his loving care of our Granny over the years, as well as the staff at Wisteria Place Legacy Lane and the Hendrick Hospice team.
