Gene was born on January 22, 1930, as the youngest of 19 children. He grew up on a farm and served in the Navy and the Air Force before earning his Bachelor’s in Engineering and Industrial Management and his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Southern Methodist University (SMU). He worked for several years building aircraft at Chance Vought and then became a Manufacturing Engineer at Texas Instruments (TI) where he worked for 30 years. At the end of his career, his division within TI was sold to Raytheon, which is where he finally retired from in 1988. Throughout his career, he employed a philosophy of working from “can until can’t”, which led to success in all of his endeavors. He never missed a Sunday at church and served the Lord at Clark Road Church of Christ for many years.
Gene was preceded in death by his “Sweet Angel” of 57 years, Corrine, his son-in-law, John, his parents; and his 18 siblings. Gene will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sherri and Terri; granddaughter, Carleigh; son-in-law, Norman, grandson-in-law, Dreu; and granddogs, Bernie and Buddy.
Gene would not have wanted his obituary to go into detail about all of the things that his family loved most about him, but, as he always said, “It is what it is.” He was a devoted husband to his beautiful wife, upstanding father to two independent daughters, and doting grandfather to one extremely lucky granddaughter. He was a talented poet, a voracious reader, a dedicated friend, a careful listener, and an enthusiastic talker. He took life one day at a time, and balanced work, family, and faith in a way that provided an example for many. He laughed with his whole body and loved with his whole heart. Most importantly, he was a believer in Jesus Christ and waited with great patience and excitement to meet Him face-to-face.
