Peacefully with her family by her side at St. Peter’s hospital on Friday November 5, 2010 in her 83rd year.Mother of Richard Gowling, Nancy (David)Scott, and James (Ellen) Gowling. Grandmother of Heather Scott-Reid, Brandy Gowling, Kelly (Nick) Uhac, Jessica Gowling and Erin (Mark) Lacasse. Great grandmother of Sydney Gowling, Francesca and Anthony Uhac, Emily Reid, and Lucas and Eva Lacasse. Bette leaves behind her sister Louise (Dusty) Curuthers, her brother Percy Barwell and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her first husband John Wesley Gowling. Bette was a devoted volunteer of HHSC for over 30 years at all of their locations including St. Peter’s Hospital, participating yearly in the Teddy Bear Picnic and 15 of 17 years of McMaster Children’s Hospital Telethon. She also volunteered at Theatre Aquarius, was in the Lady Hamilton Club and was involved in various other community organizations. A special thank you to the Juravinski Cancer Centre and Hospital, the Cancer Assistance Program (CAP), and to St. Peter’s Hospital, Palliative care unit for all of their excellent care, and a special thanks to Sharon Robinson. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at the MARLATT FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE 615 Main Street East, Hamilton (east of Sanford Ave.) on Thursday November 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Juravinski Cancer Centre, St. Peter’s Hospital, or to the Cancer Assistance Program would be appreciated.
