Standing by his side as she has done for 75 years, his soulmate; his sweetheart; his best friend; his “Blanchie-Babe”… EVA
Jim and Eva were married in Timmins in 1947 and re-located to Hamilton for work in 1950. Their daughter Vicki was born in Timmins, their sons Gary and David after they moved to Hamilton. Jim has been re-united with his two dear sons, forever. He will be sorely missed by his dear daughter-in-law Joy, his loving daughter Vicki Lynn and his dear son-in-law Dan.
Jim leaves behind a beautiful legacy. Deeply mourning his passing are his beloved Grandchildren Andrew (Jane), Jeff (Varsha), Matthew (Carla), Sherri (Tim), Jennifer, James, Robby (Stefanie). Jim was blessed with 21 Great-Grandchildren who are mourning his loss, Gabriel, Noah, Mayan, Nolan, Mateo, Luna, Clarissa, Destiny, Cody, Emily, Hudson, Madyson (Josh), Jourdyn, Sarah, Ezra, Talitha, Azariah, Kaitlyn, Mackenzie-Lynn, Rockston and Jaxson. Jim has 2 Great-Great-Granddaughters, Avigayil and Ayelet. Jim is survived by his brother-in-law Herbie Hoff. Also survived by Laurie, Nicky, Scott and family. Jim was pre-deceased by his five siblings and their spouses, and nine brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their spouses.
Jim was known to most as being a “character”, a wonderful character, but a character none-the-less. Right to the end he was rolling his eyes and making funny faces.
A tool and die maker by trade, in the mid 1960’s he went to work in the Elevator Industry, Local 90, which he retired from in 1992. Jim was the quintessential Jack-of-all-trades. He and Eva, with the help of his brothers, built their own home in 1954. He built a small sailboat, even sewing his own sail with Eva’s help! Many summer weekends saw him out on Lake Erie (in the wildest weather) racing against his two friends Bob and Russ. Jim also built a redwood strip canoe which he and Eva spent many glorious days paddling in the provincial parks. If anyone needed anything fixed Jim was your man…he could troubleshoot, mend and repair almost anything and was always happy to do so!
Jim and Eva’s passion after their love for family was camping. They made amazing memories in their travels across Canada and the US, sometimes alone, but mostly with family. The Cra-Pas-Ski Campouts and Grundy Lake will forever be his favourites, along with the Route 66 trip to California in 1964. We will miss our countless games of 5 Crowns.
Thank you to the loving, caring staff at Wentworth Heights, you went above and beyond. Thank you also to the compassionate, caring staff of Juravinski GI medicine… the respect, dignity and gentleness extended to our loved one was unparalleled. The kindness and empathy of the Palliative Team and S.W. Ashley carried us through this heartbreaking time. Thank you for feeding us so well, Auntie Marie xo.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Harmony Baptist Church, Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Jim and Eva’s place of worship, Harmony Baptist Church, 1763 Upper James St., Hamilotn would be greatly appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.marlattfhhamilton.com
