Lois C. Steele, 93, of Clearwater, Florida passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014. She was born in January 1921 in Franklin, Pa to Robert P. and Clara D. Cowin. Lois attended high school in Franklin and then graduated from Franklin Business College. She was a secretary at the Joy Manufacturing Company prior to her marriage. In 1940 she married Eugene L. Steele, also of Franklin, PA. In 1950 they moved to Jamestown, NY where they lived for 35 years.
In addition to raising their three children, Doris, Beverly, and Bill, Lois worked as a bookkeeper in the corporate offices of the Printz Company. While living in Jamestown, Lois was a member of the First Methodist Church and was active in several organizations including the Jamestown Shrine Club Auxiliary, the Maplehurst Country Club, Music Parents of the Jamestown High School, and The Home Bureau.
In the early 1980s, Lois spent extensive time commuting to Florida to care for her mother. In 1985, with their children grown, Lois and Eugene relocated to Clearwater Florida. In retirement, she was an avid golfer and a member of the Clearwater Country Club and the Women’s Golf league. She also enjoyed cooking, craft projects, bridge and other card games.
In 2012, Lois and Gene, her husband of 72 years, relocated to the Horizon Bay Assisted Living Residence where they lived until her death.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Doris Pattison, and a brother, Robert Cowin. Survivors include her husband, Eugene; a daughter, Beverly McMichael and her husband James of Novi, MI; and a son, William Steele and his wife Kathryn of Plattsburgh, NY. Also surviving are grandchildren Donald Pettit and his wife Valerie of Anchorage, AK; Gene Pettit and his wife Anne, of Elma, NY; Marci Maro and her husband, Robin of Lecanto, FL; Jeffrey Franklin of Allen Park, MI; Bradley Franklin and his wife Karyn of White Lake, MI; Katherine McMichael of Royal Oak, MI; Julie Steele-Goodwin and her husband Aaron of Plattsburgh, NY; and Matthew Steele of Plattsburgh, NY. She is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, May 24, 2014 at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Dunedin, FL. It will be preceded by a gathering of relatives and friends at 10:00 AM.
