Blackmon E. Tew, Bunky as everyone knew him, of 3148 Hayesmill Road, Godwin. Passed away on Friday Dec.6, 2019 at the home of his oldest daughter, Ann. He was a native of Sampson County. He was born on August 21, 1938 to the late Lonnie E. Tew and Mary Elizabeth “Mae” Seals Tew. Besides his parents he was also proceeded in death by his wife of almost 52 years, Doris L. Phillips Tew; one infant daughter: Melinda Kaye Tew; one granddaughter: Courtney M.Tingen; four infant brothers and one infant sister.
He is survived by four children: Kenneth B. Tew of Godwin, Doris “Ann" Tingen (William Tony) of Stedman, Michael A. Tew of Autryville and Lisa K Paris (Thomas) of Cameron; six wonderful grandchildren: Charlie “Allen” Bass (Amber), Chantel L. Paris (Travis Hollowell), Justin O. Paris, Mercedes D. Labbe, Martha Elizabeth ”Beth” Evans (Brandon) and Brittany D. Dixon; four great grandchildren: Weldon A. Bass, Marceline M. Hollowell, Dixie M. Tart and LeAnn N. Evans; some wonderful special neighbors, that he loved as family not just neighbors: Barbara Jackson, her daughter Samantha Brown and Samantha’s three sons: Xavior Brown, Aiden Brown, Derrance Nash; one older brother: Renzie Crumpler of Colorado Springs, CO.
Bunky worked at Tart Salvage Yard in Dunn for over 35 years. He also drove trucks before and during his years at Tart Salvage. Most the time when you saw him he would be wearing one of his red shirts with his name tag on it and a pair of blue work pants. He loved gardening and staying busy. He made sure every year that he planted enough food not only for his family to eat, but also for everyone he knew to eat. If he had any spare time you could find him in a boat somewhere fishing. He loved fishing. He loved talking about it also. That was one of the hardest things he had to give up cause of his health a few years ago. He loved eating breakfast at the Triangle Waffle House in Dunn. The ladies that work there not only knew him but knew what he always ordered. His favorite joy in life were his kids, grandkids and his great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home on Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM and at other times at the home of his oldest daughter, Ann, 5029 Sandmine Dr., Stedman, NC.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 15, 2019 in the Oak Ridge Church, 5648 Eason Road, Wade, NC 28395 with the Pastor Eddie Hatcher and Pastor Michael Couillard officiating the service. There will not be a graveside service.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to help cover the cost of the funeral.
