Charles Fleming Jones

January 4, 1935July 30, 2019

Charles Fleming Jones, 84, of Dunn, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 30th, 2019 at his home with his family by his side. Charles was born on January 4th, 1935 in Johnston County, the son born unto the union of the late Marshall Edgar Jones and Mary Alice Frye Jones.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by the following members of his family: A son: Johnnie Ray Jones; A daughter: Charlene Jones; and a brother: Ray Jones.

On March, 18, 1984 Charles married his wife Barbara Jean Coats Jones and they enjoyed 34 wonderful years of marriage together. Charles had been an entrepreneur, he loved the world of sales and had been a phenomenal salesman. He could sale anything as long as he believed in it's value. He had been the founder and owner of J & J Carpet Land and he had also owned his own restaurant, Anchor's End. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge; he was a very active member of the American Legion and the Dunn Shrine Club. Charles came from a time that still instilled men to be gentleman and that he was; he always presented himself friendly to others and approached everyone with the mannerisms of a good, southern man. He was polite and gentle; a pleasant soul to of had the pleasure to have known. Charles was very simple man, he loved the outdoors, the mountains and spending time with his family. He had worked hard his entire life, but that was no burden to him, as he believed a man should work hard for to make his living and he enjoyed it. Even in his last days when being plagued with dementia, the true character of Charles shined through and his family found him using his hands as if he were working. His wife handed him a hammer and this comforted him because he held it and it took him back to the many times before he had used those hands for the many projects that had been before. They sure don't make them like that anymore. Charles left many good memories behind in the hearts of those who loved him so dear and they will cherish them in the years to come.

Left behind to honor his legacy are the following members of his family: His loving wife Barbara Jean Coats Jones; a daughter: Charlotte Jones Massengill; a grandson: Trey Massengill; a stepson: Marty Denton of Dunn; a step-daughter: Cresent Braswell of Linden; and a brother Roy Jones and wife Brenda of Kinston. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who loved him.

I do not know you, but I am crying after reading the well-written obituary.

Could not help but remember telling my daddy to fold washcloths because the ship could not leave until that was done.

Dementia is so taxing on the caregiver. My sympathy to all.
