Earthy Evelyn Alphin

Earthy Evelyn Smith Alphin, age 86, of Dunn died Tuesday, June 21 , 2016 at Harnett Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center residence in Dunn. Earthy was born in Harnett County, North Carolina on September 15, 1929 the daughter of the late Sylvester and Lillie Moore Smith. and is also preceded in death by her husband Robert Hood Alphin, Sr., a sister Agnes Hodges Campbell and her two brothers: James Smith and Johnny B. Smith and one of her “Adopted Sons” Terry Capri. Before Earthy was born an older lady who was a friend of the family told her mother to name Earthy after the earth and she would not die like her infant sister before her. Earthy was blessed to outlive all her brothers and sisters. She had a long career with Erwin Mills working 42 years prior to retirement. . She worked hard as a weaver in the textile plant and even harder as a homemaker and mother, raising four children. Her love for family and people were seen through her acts of kindness whether taking food to her neighbors or visiting and caring for sick family members and friends. She was loving, kind and generous but firm and believed in doing the right thing, always by honoring God, and being loyal and truthful to all. She was a member and loved her church family at Trinity Baptist Church. A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 11:00 am, in the Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home Chapel. She will be laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery following her service. She is survived by: Daughters: Pam Alphin and Patricia Beasley and Kathy Alphin of Dunn, NC Son: Robert “Bobby” Hood Alphin, Jr. of Dunn, NC Grandchildren: R J Beasley, Kelly Alphin and Harley Smith Great Grandchildren: Taylor Beasley, Bailey Beasley, Tucker Alphin and her adopted grandchild Ashley Burns “Adopted Sons”; Terry McLeod, Jerry Tew, Teddy Capri and Ronald Page The Family will receive friends Friday, June 24, 2016 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home and other time at the home.
