On Sunday, August 15, 1936 in Bluefield, WV, Harry was born to the late Silas French VanDyke and Nancy Jane Crabtree VanDyke.
Harry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, Air Force Reserves. He also had 4 years' active duty with air transport services in Charleston, SC. Harry received an honorable discharge after his many years with the US Military.
Harry was also a commercial Airplane Mechanic after his military career. He worked for Piedmont Airlines in Roanoke, VA as an aircraft mechanic from 1961-1963 and a general aviation mechanic until his retirement in 2005.
He went to Florence Darlington Technical College for a 2-year degree in aviation and maintenance. He was an avid reader, especially westers and books on the history of the military.
Three sisters, Shelby Jean Weiler, Nancy Persinger, and Rhenda Gillilan preceded Harry, in death in addition to his parents.
Left to cherish his memory, a son, Ronnie Lee VanDyke, and wife Christine, of Lillington, NC; two daughters, Michelle Marie Jablonski, and husband Daniel, of Canonsburg, PA and Nancy Lenora DiGregorio, and husband Bob, of Central Square, NY; a brother, Sheryl French Vandyke, and wife Barbara, of Radford, VA.
Five grandchildren, also survive Harry.
Mr. VanDyke will be laid to rest at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, in Spring Lake, NC with the rendering military honors provide by the United States Air Force on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 10:00AM.
