

James Randall Parker, Jr. age 75 of Dunn passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC.
James was born December 29, 1947, the son of the late James Randall Parker, Sr. and Mamie Loise Dunn Parker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Parker and sister, Patti Parker.
After graduating from Meadow High School, he began working as a Machinist at IBM and worked his way up to Tool and Dye Specialist. His career with IBM allowed him to travel the country to set up other plants. He retired with 43 years of service.
James loved the outdoors and spent countless hours fishing, hunting, going to the mountains and trail riding. He enjoyed listening to beach and country music and has been known to give a spin around the floor. He spent many days enjoying the shade of the old oak tree and riding down to Sammy’s barn to meet the boys and catch up on the grapevine talk.
He had a special love for horses and trained many in his younger years. He was the original horse whisperer and “the Epitome of a True Southern Gentleman. He especially loved his family and spending quality time with his grandsons.
A graveside service will be Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 11:00 am at Harnett Devotional Gardens with the Rev. Randy Beasley and Rev Roy Johnson officiating.
Surviving: James is his daughters, Michelle Parker Gainey and husband Steve of Benson, NC, Tina Parker Neighbors and husband Jeff of Dunn, NC, grandsons, Colton and Caleb Neighbors of Dunn, NC.
Sisters: Shirley Hartogensis and husband Peter of Bethany Beach, De, Betty Sue Mason of Ocilla, Ga., Sylvia Fowler of Pittsboro, NC, Dorothy Holmes and husband Sammy of Dunn, NC, Cathy Patterson of Raeford, NC.
And many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 1, 2023 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Jeff and Tina Neighbors.
