Lester Lloyd Coats Jr.

Lester Lloyd Coats, Jr. Lloyd Coats, 86, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh with all his children by his side. He was born to the late Ruth Bell and L.L. (Leck) Coats of Dunn, on September 6, 1929. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patsy; his two daughters, Betsy West and husband Thomas, and Sandra (Sam) Dermott and husband David; and his son, Ray Coats and wife Cheryl all of Dunn. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth Murphy & husband Jonathan, of Dunn; James West of Los Angeles, California; and Mandy and Michael Dermott, of Dunn, and two great grandchildren, Will and Addison Murphy of Dunn. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy Coats, of Dunn; and his two sisters, Rose Marie Coats and Adelaide Thomas and husband Jerry, all of Wilmington and a host of nieces and nephews. Lloyd was the former co-owner of Coats Distributors, Inc. He retired in 1989, remained an avid golfer and horseman, and loved skiing. He was a member of Divine Street United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Divine Street United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Dunn Lions Club, Dunn Shrine Club, the Masonic Lodge, a board member of First Citizens Bank, and a former member of the Campbell University Presidential Board of Advisors. He served in the armed forces as a member of the National Guard and in the United States Army forces as a member of the National Guard and in the United States Army during the Korean War. A Service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 2;00 pm at Divine Street United Methodist Church in Dunn. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home in Dunn. Memorials may be made to Divine Street United Methodist Church, Dunn, NC 28334.
