He was born on July 4, 1946, in Jones County, North Carolina, to the late Charles Aquilla Hill Sr. and Mattie Mae Cox.
Born with a servant’s heart, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force immediately following his graduation from Dover High School. He continued his service to the government as a federal employee for 38 years, retiring as the Director of Public Utilities and Maintenance at Fort Bragg Army Installation.
Linwood was a devoted member of the Wade Community Fire Department for 54 years. He continued to serve as a firefighter, member of the board of directors, and the department’s patriarch until the time of his passing. His contributions to the community and the mentorship of countless young firefighters over the past half-century are immeasurable.
He was a humble man of great integrity who always put the needs of others before his own. He loved his family, his community, and every opportunity to offer a kind word. He had the patience of Job, which complemented his relentless passion for all things fishing-related.
Linwood is survived by his wife, Bessie (Becky) Hill; two sons, Mike Hill (wife Jill) of Wade, and Danny Hill of Wade; and one grandson, Ethan.
