Pamela Jean Hawley Naylor, 73, of 394 Wrench Road, Godwin, died at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield on October 25th. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Margret Hawley. She is survived by her daughter Jentry Naylor (David) and her son Robert Naylor (Donna) of Newton Grove and her grandchildren Zachary, Michaela, Nicholas, Morgan, Reagan, Morgen and Luke.

She was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. She graduated from Clement High School in 1963. She then attended Kings Business College briefly and postponed her academic pursuits to raise her children. She later completed her Bachelor’s degree in business education from Fayetteville State University and taught at Hobbton High School, where she was beloved by many students, faculty, and staff. She retired from teaching in 2007.

Most afternoons Pam would spend time loving on her lab, Sammy, and dancing along to Elvis. She had a fierce heart for bettering the lives of all, especially the lives of young people. She was an advocate for the education and achievements of her students. She loved her parents and family most of all and is remembered as a loving and giving servant of Christ. She fought long and hard for life, so please rejoice with her for she is finally healed and whole with The Father.

Pam was a very kind lady, she went out of her way to make me feel welcome. I never sat alone at a basketball game. She would find me, and come sit with me and we'd chat as if we knew eachother for a long time. It takes an extraordinary person to do that. Kindnesses to strangers doesn't come easy these days; I will always remember her for that. A simple act, a lasting effect. RIP kind lady. My most sincere sympathies to the Naylor family in your loss.

I was a student of Pam’s mother, Mrs. Margaret Hawley, when Pam was in High School at Clement. We were a grade 1-12 school at that time, and Pam would come into our class and help teach us our school song. I also got to see her play basketball! She was a great player!

I always enjoyed working with Pam—as business teachers at county meetings and later at her beloved HHS! She loved her students, dear friends, and family. Thinking of you all!

Gentry and Robert, I love you both and you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up and so many of them include your mom and both of you. Sunday’s at Aunt Sally’s and staying at your house . Then after I was grown I had the privilege of being your Mom’s nurse for s time. I love you and will always treasure those memories.
