

Bill was born in Harnett County to the late Larry Monroe Coats and Linda Thornton Brown
He attended Midway High School in Newton Grove, where he discovered his love for DC and Marvel comics—especially Captain America. Bill loved video games and food, particularly Chinese food. He was a generous soul. His kind and caring nature was so well known that when the Cardinal Care facility was passed down to the facilitator’s godson she made him promise just one thing: take care of Billy.
He is preceded in death by Linda and Arnold Roy Brown, Larry Monroe Coats, sister Cindy Ann Coats, Step sister Brenda Warren, and step brother Earnest Tart.
He is survived by his sisters, Carol Naylor (Huey) and Patty Jackson (Billy); his brother, James Coats (Michelle), stepmother, Dorothy Coats, stepbrothers, Joseph Tart, Rusty Brown and Eddie Arnold Brown, and stepsisters Veronica Gregory and Empy Fowler along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Special friends Sheila and Wanda, as well as other staff at Cardinal Care and Cape Fear Valley Hospital.
The family will receive family and friends at the home of Billy and Patty Jackson on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 1958 Feed Mill Road Roseboro, NC 28382
A visitation for Mr. Coats will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m., both at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lee-Williford Cemetery.
