Willie Martin Tart

Willie Martin Tart, age 90 of Dunn, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC.

Willie Martin was born on his family farm on August 4, 1932. He was the son of Willie Tart and Bessie Weeks Tart. He married his wife, Shirley Mae McLamb on November 6, 1955 who preceded him death. In addition were his brother, Marvin Tart, Sr. and sisters, Gladys Tart Houston and Pearl Tart Giles.

Willie Martin served 24 months in the Korean War. He started his lifelong career farming when he returned home. He was a 7th generation tobacco and cotton farmer.

He gave his heart to the Lord on May 3, 1953 and was a lifelong member of Jonesboro Baptist Church.

Willie Martin's greatest passion was the love of his family. He passed the love of nature and farming to his children, grandchildren and his great grandson Bennett whom he loved dearly.

Willie Martin enjoyed fishing. Some of his fondest memories were fishing trips to Surf City and Lake Okeechobee in Florida with his lifelong friends: Carlie C. McLamb, Smokie Barefoot, Wallace and Carolyn Core. Memories of the Saturday night dances with dear friends were also cherished deeply in his heart. His smile, his love for life, his stories most of all - his presence will be deeply missed.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Hundley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Robert Martin Tart of Benson, NC.

W. E. Tart of Dunn, NC.

Grandchildren: Caitlan Tart Hondros of Charleston, SC; Dylan Martin Tart of Dunn, NC; Brandy Tart Strickland & Kelly of Dunn, NC and Molly Tart Sloan & Justin of Benson, NC.

Great Grandchildren: Bennett Olin Hondros, Kenleigh Stickland, Jon Kelly Strickland, Ava Strickland and Maggie Sloan.

Daughters-in-Law: Diana Johnson Tart and Cheryl Blackman Tart both from Benson, NC.

Special Friends: Alecia and Allison Radcliff.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 10:30 am – 11:30 am at Cromartie Miller Funeral Home in Dunn. One hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the home of Sammy & Christina Tart, 208 Willie Tart Lane, Dunn, NC.
