My very first best friend, Alexis. You were the one who filled my childhood with laughter, adventures, and memories I’ll cherish forever. 

We grew up having a blast at our block parties, sleepovers that always ended in laughter and inside jokes. Trips to West Palm that I’ll never forget.  And everything else in between. When she went off to college and eventually moved to Chicago, no matter how far apart life took us, we always knew that if we saw each other again, we’d pick up exactly where we left off. That’s the kind of friend she was- full of light, and impossible to forget. 

Alexis, you’ll forever be missed but what will always make me smile is the sound of your laugh, that I can still hear. Thank you for being my very first best friend.

I had the pleasure of playing on the Williamsville North Field Hockey team with Allie – who wasn’t just another player, but an integral part of our team on and off the field.

Anyone who played with Allie knows how special it was to do so. But especially as an awkward teenager, Allie was someone to look up to – unbelievably dedicated, talented, a natural leader, beautiful (inside and out), vibrant and un-apologetically herself. Regardless of what was going on, Allie always made herself available to help coach and share tips/tricks to make others better.

She was hilarious and her goofiness made every practice, bus ride and trip filled with laughter. Whether it was a “how many animal crackers can I fit into my mouth” competition, convincing a sleepwalking teammate they were getting ready for a high school dance or dressing up as cats and crawling through our hotel to surprise our coach, Allie was always at the forefront of the fun.

It was an honor to be on the same team as Allie and I am so lucky to have gotten to know her through our years in field hockey – which are some of my most special memories from high school. Continuing to send our thoughts and prayers to all of her friends and family. She was truly one-of-a-kind and she will be greatly missed.

From college friends to coworkers, Allie lit up every room she was in. My heart is truly broken that I will never be able to laugh with her or see her smile. I’m so lucky to have met Allie back in East Lansing almost a decade ago and that our paths crossed later in our professional life. From understanding what it was like to be a D1 athlete to being in hospitality business classes together. She truly was a mentor and an older sister to me. Rest in Peace, Sweet Girl.

I will always remember Allie as a fierce competitor with the best sense of humor and a big heart. I enjoyed every moment I spent playing with her and think back on those times fondly. Sending my love and condolences to Tom, Joanne, Leslie, and Clare ❤️

Joanne, this is Jim Caputi.  Deb and I wish to express our deepest condolences for the loss of your daughter, Alexis.  Unfortunately , having lost our daughter Jessica four years ago , we know what you and your family are going through.  There are no words I can tell you to ease your grief, but I can tell you that keeping Alexis in your thoughts and prayers and keeping her memories alive will help over time. God bless

I don’t have the words to express the heartbreak I feel, or the sympathy I have for Allie’s family and all of the friends whose lives she touched.

Allie and I were very close in high school and have always kept in touch over the years. Whether it was a quick birthday text, sharing a funny memory, or sending a song that reminded us of each other, we always found a way to stay connected. We had so many memories together, and for the last ten-plus years we called each other “Braid$.” She always remembered exactly how that started. One day we both showed up with our hair in braids, laughed about it endlessly, and the nickname just stuck.

We also had a running joke about my Bullseye pillow pet from Toy Story. Allie and I were obsessed with how it had “the nappiest tail,” and it became one of those silly things that made us laugh until we cried. She even came on vacation with my family one year to Siesta Key, and it’s still one of my favorite trips ever. 

Some of my favorite memories with Allie were at concerts, singing at the top of our lungs and laughing through the entire night. We had way too many inside jokes to even count, and I still catch myself laughing at some of them to this day. She had this amazing way of making even the simplest moments feel like something special.

Allie was one of the funniest, most genuine people I’ve ever known. Her humor was unmatched, her energy was contagious, and her heart was huge. She cared so deeply about her friends and loved her family more than anything. That love and loyalty were such a big part of who she was.

From sleepovers to proms, concerts, vacations, and everything in between, the memories I have with Allie are some of the most precious of my life. She will always be my “Braid$,” and I will miss her forever.

And boy, did we laugh. That’s something I will never, ever forget.

Dear Ahern Family,
On behalf of the Koestler family, I, Emily, am writing to extend our deepest condolences for your loss. Please know that our thoughts are with you during this incredibly difficult time. 

Allie was not only a friend to me during high school—she was a mentor, a leader, and someone I truly looked up to. Her unparalleled work ethic and determination inspired everyone around her, and her sense of humor brought light to even the most challenging days.

Allie left a lasting impression on my life, and I will always be grateful for the example she set and the memories we shared. Her legacy continues to live on—in the lives she touched, the strength she inspired, and the community she helped shape. She truly made a profound impact on all of us field hockey and lacrosse girls during both her time at North and while she was at Michigan State. We wouldn’t be who we are today without her leadership, passion, and unwavering spirit.

Freshmen vs seniors and all the memories in between

I’m heartbroken over the loss of Allie. She was an amazing person.. so kind, funny, driven, and full of life.

We were connected in so many different ways- through school, sports, and family. She was my sister’s best friend’s little sister which  always made our friendship feel special and tightly bound, very sister-like ourselves. No matter what, Allie was always making others laugh even when she wasn’t trying to.  When I think back, majority of my memories are filled with goofiness and laughter, which I think we need more of now and days. Something that I can keep reminding myself when things get overwhelming or tough. Allie will remind me. 

Looking through old photos made me feel saddened, and it also reminded me how lucky I was to have known her, and to have seen all the incredible sides of her: the friend, sister, daughter, teammate, student, and the person who lit up every room and brought that undeniable energy and fun. I’ll always cherish the memories that we’ve had together. She will be deeply missed, and her spirit and light will stay with everyone who knew and loved her. All my thoughts with your family ♥️

Senior prom, 2011. We’ve lived so much life between then and now, but in so many ways it feels like just yesterday.

Allie was my friend since 3rd grade. I feel extremely grateful to have grown up alongside her, building countless memories together along the way: from elementary school birthday parties, summer vacations, sleepovers and little leagues… to giggling in the back of our high school classes, double dates, homecomings, proms and high school championships. 

Having played several sports with Allie over the years, I could go on and on about her as a competitor and teammate, a natural athlete whose intensity was second to none. She pushed herself and made those around her better.

But when I think of Allie, my first thought is of her bright smile and her ability to make everyone laugh. She wasn’t just funny, she would literally make you laugh until you were on the ground in tears. 

To Mr. and Mrs. Ahern, Leslie & Clare, I am so beyond sorry for this unimaginable loss. I’m thinking of you all and sending you strength during this impossible time.

My first memory of Allie was when we played on the Cardinals together in 10u kid-pitch softball. After one of our games, we had a team party at our house where we jumped into the pool in our dirty Lou Gehrig uniforms. Allie was the life of the party - her personality was truly infectious, and wherever she was, people wanted to be just like her. Between her personality, beauty, athleticism and quick-witted jokes (that always seemed to become staples and taglines), I looked up to her so much. 

There’s no doubt about the impact she had on the field hockey community in Western New York. Not only were my years playing high school field hockey with her PACKED with memories - dressing up as cats at states, team sleepovers, dance routines on the bus, school rivalries, etc. but she pushed so many of us to be better and to want to compete at a higher level. 

I had the pleasure of joining Allie in Michigan to play in college, which meant we got to see her more often than we might have otherwise. We played against each other and I got the chance to bring some of my teammates to MSU to hang out with her teammates. A time was had, but the same thing from when we were 10 still held true - her personality was just as magnetic and full of life.

I’ll also never forget one spring break when my friend and I were coming home from Florida, Allie happened to have two extra tickets to Rihanna with her college friends... I’m pretty sure we took a limo? I don't totally remember how that happened... or when looking at pictures , why we were dressed so business-casually, but that was 2013 for ya. 

She will be so deeply missed. My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Ahern family.

Throughout the years we’ve always remained in touch - coming back together to reminisce, laugh, support each other through life’s challenges, and most importantly share our dreams with haunting field hockey related scenarios. One she recently had shared with me was that she wasn’t allowed to play in a game because she didn’t pass an excel related test beforehand. 

Allie undoubtedly contributed to the person I am today. She taught me to be bold, fearless, to fight for what I want, and to not take life too seriously. I will miss her so very deeply. 

Tom, Joann, Leslie, Clare - I am thinking of you all and have no words to express my deep sorrow for your sudden and tragic loss. I am always here to support you in any way possible. 

Allie used to make this silly face with an underbite and flared nostrils. I said she reminded me of Eliot, the goofy, bumbling cartoon dragon from the movie, “Pete’s Dragon.” From then on I referred to Allie as Eliot and she called me Pete - Eliot’s little friend that was covered in chimney soot. (Please google the old movie poster for reference).

Part 2/3 

Allie was fiercely competitive, which is putting it lightly. Whether it be sacrificing her body on the field hockey field to make the big play or accepting someone’s challenge to pop an entire wad of wasabi in her mouth at dinner - you knew Allie would do anything and everything to win. We would frequently reference “WHAT’S THE TIEBREAKER,” a quote by Nicole Kidman’s character in the movie “Just Go With It” - because a tie for Allie was unacceptable. The amount of times we shouted that to each other after we won our internal co-offensive player of the year was comical. 

Being on a collegiate field hockey team together made our bond even deeper. We trained, won, lost, and always fought together as a team. From trudging in the snow together in the early morning hours to a spring lift to winning a Big Ten tournament championship together - we had each others back through it all. My favorite field hockey memories include Allie getting a yellow card for cursing at the ref as we were going into OT, sitting on her lap in the single chair on the sideline because we both got a yellow card simultaneously in our senior game, doing our “evil cackle” as we ran back to the 50 yard line after scoring a goal, and standing on the sideline doing whatever antics we could to get Helen’s attention to put us back in the game. I’m also pretty sure she coined the term “Big Ten Big Girls” which we quoted frequently throughout our years at MSU. It was the perfect ode to us not being afraid to lift heavy, eat whatever we want and be physical with our opponents on the field. 

Anyone that has watched us play together knows that we possessed a natural chemistry on the field that was so special to be apart of. Looking at back our photos - our goal celebrations pictures make me particularly emotional. What I would do to experience a moment like that again with Allie.

Part 1/3 

I was assigned to be Allie’s summer roommate 14 years ago going into our freshman year at Michigan State. I was intimidated by Allie at first as she has already been there for a semester and had a bold and outgoing personality. Not to mention she was absolutely gorgeous with that glowing smile of hers. I wanted so badly for her to want to be my friend. We instantly were spending nearly every waking moment together and it didn’t take long to discover that we matched each other’s level of weird - which became the nidus of our longstanding friendship. 

In the fall, we remained close despite no longer being roommates and Allie’s perfectly curated dorm room was the go-to hang out spot. We belted “What’s My Name” and “It Girl” over and over on her infamous bubble speakers. We took about a million selfies on Photo Booth and developed our special hangover cure - SPECIFICALLY eating microwaveable kraft mac n cheese, taking Advil, and chugging a standard size water bottle before bed. Looking back - I don’t anything would combat the grape smirnoff and sprite combo that we consumed the night before. 

Within only a couple months of knowing each other - we were joined at the hip. When you thought of Allie, you thought of Abby and vice versa. From ripping it up on the field hockey field to getting in trouble to being goofballs all over campus - we were growing up together while creating memories for a lifetime. We were so obsessed with each other that Allie would even come to my classes with me just so we could be together. 

Allie had the magical ability to make something seemingly mundane into the funniest thing I’ve  heard in my life - causing painful stitches in my side and tears to stream down my face. Not only that, but she wasn’t afraid to absolutely run the joke into the ground with me, definitely irritating and annoying those around us. I loved not caring about what others thought and being in our own little silly world together.

Allie brightened every room she walked into- whether through her smile, a silly and random joke, or her genuine care for others. I remember when I started working at Hyatt in Chicago, I wanted to be her friend immediately after meeting her because she exuded such amazing energy and made me laugh more than anyone. Her spirit was captivating, and we quickly became inseparable, gallivanting around Chicago together. I will forever cherish our memories and am so thankful I had the honor of knowing and loving her. She will be missed more than words can say. I’m sending immense love and prayers to you all, especially Tom, Joanne, Leslie, and Clare 🫶

We are so saddened to hear of the loss of your beloved Allie. She will always be remembered as a bright young lady with incredible gifts of a quick wit, fierce competitiveness, and incredible athleticism. She led our high school field hockey teams to victories at every level and taught the girls to celebrate the little wins with the same energy as the big ones. It was evident to all who knew her and watched her that she didn't just play the game; she loved it. Her vibrant spirit, and the way she could lift the mood and bring her teammates together, is what our family will always fondly remember about Allie. “But I know i’m who I am today because I knew you” wicked 

I would never half been the athlete/ person I was if I didn’t happen to be in Allie’s grade. From meeting in middle school at futures (field hockey people know) I was blessed to have competed against her for so many years. Becoming friends in college and training together before our senior seasons will be time I will forever cherish. I am so happy my last memory being together was watching her play her senior BIG 10 all star game at OSU.  Her competitiveness, grit, and athleticism elevated women’s sports in western New York area. Her legacy in sports will continue on for all those who saw her play as her impact was just so monumental.Clare, Leslie, and Mr and Mrs Ahern I am so sorry for your tremendous loss.

Allie made me laugh so hard that tears would fall and my abs hurt. She was beautiful, sweet, caring, extremely talented, hard working, and oh so funny.  I loved working with her! We would have so much fun on client meetings, and her clients and colleagues loved her. She made the stressful days better and she always lit up a room. Allie is incredibly loved and will be missed beyond words.

Our team’s favorite spot to have dinner on the way home from a road trip, PF Changs. I always sat at the front of the bus with Pags and we would always hear Allie cracking jokes in the back.

A perfect season, 23-0, State Champions. This team was family. For my birthday that year Leslie and Allie had made me handwritten cards that I recently came across during one of my moves. Crazy that I had kept those cards all these years.

I don’t think there was a better name to fit this team, “Knuckleheads”.

Layover in Vegas on our way home from festival. I’m sure she said something like “I wore this shirt to match your purse, let’s take a pic.”

Allie was always the one making jokes and keeping everyone humble. Her favorite ongoing joke with me was that she wanted to be just like me. I don’t know if she knew just how many people wish they could have been just like her. She was beautiful inside and out, was able to gracefully keep things lighthearted and fun and was always putting a smile on everyone’s face. She was naturally athletic and made sports look easy. I was so proud that she continued on to play field hockey at Michigan State, in my footsteps and go on to have a more remarkable college career with the Spartans.

Allie was an incredible teammate on our high school field hockey team. I had always known her as “Leslie’s younger sister.” Once we became teammates, she became a friend. She was always laughing and bringing lightness to tense situations. When I think of her, I think of her bright smile. I am sending so much love to the Ahern family! Allie will be greatly missed.
