

Anthony J. DeMarie, trial attorney and founding partner of the law firm of Dixon, DeMarie & Szymoniak, later DeMarie & Schoenborn, was the husband of the late Rose (nee, Galluzzo), father of Michael, of Delray Beach, FL., Janice (Michael) Tripp and Lynda (Jay) Mostowy, of Amherst, and the late Gregory and grandfather of: Michelle & David DeMarie, Taylor & Maria Tripp and Marilyn, Michael (Margaret), Joseph, Christopher, and Emily Mostowy and great grandfather of Maddox Mondelli, and Roman DeMarie, brother of the late Serena Pignataro and Joseph (Mildred) DeMarie, who was also his law partner.
He tried more than 1,000 civil and criminal cases, beginning in 1956, and was admitted to practice in all courts in New York as well as the Federal Court system, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He was also admitted to practice in the State of Florida for more than 25 years.
He was a member of the: Erie County Bar Association and a director from 1968-1971; N.Y. State Bar Association; American Trial Lawyers Association; N.Y. State Trial Lawyers Association and the Erie County Trial Lawyers Association (which became the Western N.Y. Trial Lawyers Association), and was a member of the Board of Governors and a past President. He was also a member of the American Arbitration Association and the Florida Bar Association.
He had been an attorney for most local police unions in Western N.Y., at one time or another, beginning in 1967 and was attorney for the Police Conference of Western New York for more than 50 years.
After graduation from Grover Cleveland High School in 1946, he enlisted into the Army and spent two years in Japan. After discharge, he attended Canisius College and entered UB Law School in 1950 but was recalled to active duty and served 11½ months of infantry combat as a machine gun platoon leader in Korea, as a Master Sergeant.
He received the Purple Heart, for wounds suffered on Bloody Ridge and was, twice, awarded the Silver Star Medal, for gallantry in action and the Bronze Star Medal, with V-Device, for Valor. He received four battle stars, the N.Y. Distinguished Service Medal and several other decorations, including the Combat Infantry Badge. In May, 1951 he was credited with inflicting 450 enemy casualties, in one battle, singlehandedly.
He was a member and past governor of Transit Valley Country Club and a former member of the Romulus Club of Buffalo, the Catholic War Veterans, the Knights of Columbus, the 2nd Division Association, the 9th Infantry Regiment Association, and several other organizations. He enjoyed golf, hunting, and activities with his grandchildren. He has been listed in Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who in the East, for more than 45 years.
