Carl Harold Bauer of Eggertsville, NY, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 31. He was 90. He was surrounded by his devoted family in his last days, including Carmille, his loving wife of 62 years, and his three children.
Carl was born to parents Raymond Carl and Mary Louise Bauer. Raised in a farming family in Eden, Carl spent his early years running the farm with his father and playing with his younger sister, Jane.
He attended University at Buffalo, where he earned a well-utilized degree in Mechanical Engineering as well as an MBA. He spread his passion for engineering to all three of his children and several of his grandchildren. A natural leader, Carl spent 29 years at Cooper Turbocompressor, where he retired as a director of Engineering in 2000.
Carl was a devout man of faith and a firm believer in taking his family to church every Sunday. He served as a deacon at Edison Street Baptist Church, his wife’s family church. Most recently, he was an active member of Church of the Nativity United Church of Christ, where he loved his church family dearly. A man with German roots, Carl was a lifelong Lutheran at heart.
An engineer’s engineer, there was nothing he couldn’t tackle. He conquered countless remodeling projects and was the family’s DIY answer line at any time of day. He enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Lake Chautauqua, his home away from home, where he and Carmille frequently hosted friends and family. When Carl wasn’t driving a tractor or a boat, he was often found tooling away in the garage or working in his vegetable garden. He was the embodiment of a good neighbor and could always be relied upon to lend a helping hand with any project.
While Carl instilled his industrious work ethic in his children and grandchildren, he also believed in taking time out to play and made time for countless family vacations and road trip adventures. He taught his kids and grandkids how to waterski, watching them in the boat’s rearview mirror with pride. At the end of the day, when the family prayed and ate dinner together, Carl would have the whole table laughing with his quick-witted humor. He was happiest when his family was together.
Carl is survived by his beloved wife, Carmille, and their three children; Jennifer Balevic (David) of Houston, TX, Krista St. George (Scott) of Richmond, MA and Karl Bauer (Crystal) of Kansas City, MO; his eight grandchildren, Abbie Sharkey (Liam), Jamie Balevic (Marinda), Katie and Emma Balevic, Corbin and Norah Bauer, and Jon and Ethan Broxterman; his three great-grandchildren, Kellan and Emilia Sharkey and Wyatt Balevic; as well as his dear sister, Jane Barlow (Robert) of Hamburg, NY.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Church of the Nativity UCC, 1530 Colvin Blvd., Tonawanda, NY 14223 on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 2 pm. Online condolences may be offered at www.denglerrobertspernafuneral.com.
