

Carl J. Smith , 86, of East Amherst NY, passed away on August 26, 2025. Born on February 24, 1939, Carl was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and a proud member of the Masonic fraternity. He lived his life with integrity, kindness, and a deep commitment to helping others. Known for his warm heart and unwavering loyalty, he touched the lives of many.
Carl was a proud and active member of the Masonic fraternity, where he devoted countless hours to fellowship, service, and the betterment of others. His work within the Masons was not just a duty—it was a calling, one that reflected the values he lived by every day. A passionate history enthusiast, Carl had a particular love for Civil War history. He spent many hours reading, studying battles, and sharing thoughtful insights about that era. His knowledge and passion brought history to life for his family and friends, and he was always eager to discuss what we could learn from the past. Whether visiting historical sites or simply enjoying a well-worn book, he found deep meaning in understanding the people and events that shaped our nation.
Carl is survived by son David LaGier (Judy) daughter Gina Grau (Brian) daughter Carla Mingarelli (Tony) son David Smith. Grandfather to Brianna and Tyler Grau, Denver and Serina LaGier, Jessica and Darrick Deperto, Marissa Mingarelli and great granddaughter Chloe Drabek, who will carry forward his legacy of compassion, strength, and service.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Serina Smith.
Carl made people feel seen, heard, and valued. His sense of humor, steady presence, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Friends may Call Tuesday, September 2nd at the DENGLER ROBERTS PERNA FUNERAL HOME 8630 Transit Rd., East Amherst. from 3-7 pm, where a Masonic Service will be held under the auspices of the Mt. Vernon Lodge # 263 F.& A.M. at 6:30pm
A private funeral service will be held at The Chapel, CrossPoint Campus 500 Crosspoint Pkwy, Getzville, NY., Wednesday at 10am.
Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery
