My wife Megan and I were fortunate to have Ikenna as our Relationship Manager at HSBC. We have only today, 28 August, heard of his passing. We are so very sorry. He was always a pleasure to deal with and was extremely helpful in dealing with our affairs. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends over their sad loss.

Times like this, when a wonderful life is cut short is so hard to explain or understand. Ike was not just a big brother to me, but was also a good friend of mine, during my medical school years in Budapest Hungary. 

His presence always lit up the room and he always had a big white smile on his face even in the most difficult times. I really miss his jokes, his funny/awkward dance moves at parties back then😂 and his never-ending wild tales about his college campus days back in Nigeria. Bro was just a good sport and a huge loss, not just to his immediate family but to just about any and everyone who met him😏 May his beautiful soul rest in perfect peace 🙏

I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend, fellow economist, and brother, Ikenna A.B. Nnuji.

I will always cherish our days together in Budapest, Hungary in the mid-90s — the laughter, the dreams, and the unshakable camaraderie we shared. We watched each other navigate life’s many metamorphoses, from young students to professionals, from dreamers to husbands and fathers.

If I could turn back the hands of time, it would be to relive those moments and finally have that long-awaited reunion we would all hope for.

Ike, my dear brother-in-law always had a big heart and a strong support for the family. When the officer at the border asked him, "Are you willing to risk your green card for this guy?" He said yes without hesitation. If I were in heaven with a green card, I would do the same for him without hesitation.

We celebrate his life while also grieving him not being with us.

Ikenna’s shocking passing is taking away a significant part of my childhood growing up in Festac, Lagos, Nigeria. We lived less than 100 meters apart, and spent countless days playing soccer together. 
We became friends for life from those experiences, and we shared common academic and career dreams. 

After losing contact as teenagers, the day I found him on Facebook in 2008, after so many years wondering how he was, remains amongst my most memorable and pleasant encounters on social media. I am glad I told him so after we reconnected. 

Since then, just reading his posts and tags, I have admired my friend for becoming the dutiful, devoted man, husband and father I knew from our childhood that he will turn out to be. 

We chatted about finding a way to meet between our locations in the US or Canada, sad that we never worked it out. 

Dear Andrea, please accept my heartfelt condolences. May you, the boys and the larger Nnuji family find solace in God.

This is a tough one. There were many times when work was just work, but then you would hear a deep baritone voice singing… It was Ike. I’ll never forget bonding over us both having Hungarian wives and him trying to convince me that Budapest is the real city that never sleeps. Deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of Ike’s passing.  I had the privilege of meeting Ike a few years ago through our mutual friendship with his colleagues, Ricardo Espejo and Jacmel deArmas, along with several of Ike’s co-workers.  
Ike had a magnetic personality and I always enjoyed hanging with him.  To coin the phrase “Cool Cat,” that was Ike.
