

Born in Marietta, Ohio, Bob has lived in Amherst, NY, since 1952.
Bob was a well-respected business leader in the insurance community across the state of New York. He founded Specific Solutions, an insurance brokerage specializing in life, disability, long-term-care, annuities and impaired risk. He also co-founded an insurance agency representing Bankers Life, now known as Principal Mutual Life Insurance Company.
After graduating from Marietta High School, Bob served in the U.S. Army before attending Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where he played football, earned his bachelor’s degree, and met his loving wife. He attended the University of Wisconsin, where he completed his graduate studies in meteorology. He moved to Buffalo to work for Calspan Corporation and then joined Bankers Life before opening his first insurance agency.
Mr. Long was a generous, hard-working, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who provided well for his family. He founded and led the Hemophilia Center of Western New York and served in many capacities for the National Hemophilia Foundation in support of this blood clotting disorder which impacted the lives of his two sons. He was a member of Park Country Club since 1978, where he enjoyed playing golf and tennis, and also a member of North Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen (Conway) Burton and Virginia (Larry) Persons; a son, Thomas (Jill) Long; and seven grandchildren, Laura (Adam), Bobby (Katie), A.J., Amy (Mark), Andrew, Brandon (Sydney), and Ashley. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Patricia, and a son, Robert.
Funeral services and burial were private.
