Anne Meredith (nee Spencer) Meltzer, a resident of the Town of Aurora for 30 years, died peacefully in her home surrounded by family after a long illness. She was 70.
Mrs. Meltzer grew up in Kenmore and was a 1964 graduate of St. Paul’s Elementary and 1968 graduate of Mount St. Mary’s Academy. She attended SUNY Buffalo State College and Canisius College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1976, and a master’s degree in business administration.
As a child Mrs. Meltzer enjoyed activities that included a girls’ club and the Girl Scouts, traveling with the latter to Mexico. Summers were spent at the family cottage in Fort Erie, Ontario. Her first job at age 15 as a cashier and manger at Food Arena in North Buffalo resulted in many life-long friendships. Her loving nature and warmth made her home a frequent gathering place for friends.
For 20 years, Mrs. Meltzer worked at Marine Midland / HSBC in many financial and administrative functions, culminating in her position as an Assistant Vice President and as Project Manager for construction of the company’s Atrium Building. She later worked independently in tax services.
Mrs. Meltzer and her husband David enjoyed travel to Israel, France, Italy, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and visits to family and friends across they US. She was an ardent supporter of environmental causes and preservation of our natural heritage. She also supported children’s health, the arts, and a love of animals that led to adoption of four rescue animals.
Those who knew her cherished Mrs. Meltzer as a sensitive, kindhearted, generous soul who always remembered birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions. She was thoughtful and caring, selfless in her love for others, and treasured by all who knew her.
Mrs. Meltzer is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years David Meltzer; sisters Mary Elizabeth (Joseph) Lischka and Gail Marie (late David) Schickele; brother John "Jack" Spencer; and nieces and nephews Gail Lischka, Adam Spencer, Colin Spencer, Tiernan Spencer and Nightrain Schickele. She was predeceased by her parents Eileen Tiernan Spencer of Rochester, John Edward “Jack” Spencer of Buffalo, and mother and father-in-law Gertrude “Goldie” and Abe Meltzer of Kenmore.
Wood Funeral Home, 784 Main Street, East Aurora, made all arrangements. The family will present at Wood Funeral Home on Thurs., June 10 from 3 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Fri., June 11 at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish, 520 Oakwood Ave., East Aurora.
