July 2nd, 1941 – January 6, 2024
Barbara Marjorie (Kowal) Lerch passed away on January 6th, 2024. Barb was the oldest of three
daughters (Virginia, Dorothy) born to Theodore and Genevieve Kowal and spent her childhood in the
northern New Jersey area, graduating from Wallington High School and later receiving her nursing
degree from Keuka College. She married Karl D. Lerch and worked as a nurse and Karl as a toy designer.
After working for a number of years in the medical profession as an RN, Barb and Karl had two boys:
Terry and Chris. Job opportunities brought her to East Aurora, NY where she remained for the rest of
her life. Barb enjoyed family vacations the most, especially trips to Maine in the summer with immediate family, parents, and sisters Dorothy and Ginny. In later years, she loved spending time with her children,
grandchildren, nieces, and nephew: Emily, Keranin, Jillian, Sullivan, Gen, Vivian, Allie, Kelly, and Bryan .
She also explored numerous hobbies and crafts including knitting, sewing, gardening, tennis, swimming,
walking, cross-country skiing, and bird-watching. Barbara had a charming, quirky personality and interesting perspective on life. Extremely intelligent and not afraid to voice her opinion, Barb added spice to everyone’s life who had to the pleasure to know her, especially her family, friends, and neighbors. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
