Chris was the kind of friend we all want to be...but never get around to “actually“ becoming. Especially to those we say we care about. When he cared about you and loved you he was the true essence of reliable that most of us NEVER ever find in another human being. He would observe before he spoke and when he did it was witty, gentle, and you definitely listened. May we all learn from him that we need to be the helpers and not the takers, as he was. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

His studio full of plants and insects and flowers and growth mixed with science and art and his forever present kindness and wisdom will never be forgotten. Christopher Vesper was a dear friend at SUNY Purchase and he will forever be an individual that influenced and inspired my life. Never forgotten, forever missed. Many prayers to those close.

Chris was an exceptional person, kind, empathic, humble, and smart. That was true when he was undergraduate student in UB’s Dept of Art and I’m sure the same was true in his graduate experience at Purchase. In the early days of large format printing at the UB ART’s BAP (Chris named it Big Ass Prints) he ran most all the printing for two plus years. I was thankful for his patience, as running jobs in the early 2000’s was a much slower process. I was happy to recommend him for his application to SUNY Purchase and hear from him now an again on how his life was proceeding. The news of Chris’ death was kindly delivered to me by his fellow UB alums Jenn and Dennis. That made it less of a shock and made the sadness more bearable, recalling his smile, great attitude and how it was good to have known such a wonderful person. It’s obvious he was dearly loved and appreciated by many others.

Chris was a good friend while we were attending graduate school at SUNY Purchase. Our MFA group enjoyed many outings in New York City, gatherings in White Plains and Greenwich, and occasional drinks at the Cobblestone. Vesper was a constant mentor/helper to younger students and his peers. He was always eager to lend a hand. He was smart and enjoyed intellectual conversation. His plant displays and aquariums were wonderful works of art.

Chris was the kindest, most generous person I knew.
He was one of the first people I met at the Apple store and set the standard of what hard work and dedication should be.
Vesper also provided me a place to live when I needed it most.
I will be forever grateful for that kindness, opening his home to me and my bird YaYa. I’ll always remember the good times we had there.
There are only good memories I have of you Chris.
You leaving this world too soon is the worse thing you could of done.
YaYa, Karl and I miss you.

It was my great honor and privilege to work with Vesper at the Apple store in Stamford. He was always calm under pressure, dedicated to his job, and a consummate professional; and yet he was always warm, maintained an understated sense of humor and was always willing to help. He had a good energy. He was the kind of guy you wanted in your corner. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing.
