Damon gave his time so freely and never asked for anything in return. Whether it was helping someone in need or simply being there to listen, he always showed up. He had the biggest heart and a natural instinct to care for others, and that’s how we will always remember him.

Damon was someone that seemingly knew everyone and everyone wanted to know him. Anywhere we went, someone would always come up to him to say hello. He’d always introduce me and explain how they knew each other. Of course, he’d find a way to sneak in an anecdote that would make us laugh – his friends were your friends. 

He was always helping somebody. Whenever I asked what he was up to that day he’d respond with “I’m helping my buddy…” with something or “I have to drive down to fix this…” (He helped me and my family on multiple occasions). He was such a talented person, he could do anything.

After I moved away, I loved checking-in and hearing how happy he was cruising back and forth between the US + Canada to spend time with Ali.   I’m really going to miss his laugh, smile, sense of humor, and hugs. 

Every time we’d part ways and knew it’d be a while before we saw each other again we’d say or send Love you pal, miss you and hope to see you soon.

Living in Hong Kong it was challenging to keep connected with the Root clan on the other side of the world. But I am so grateful that I got to know the real Damon better, shortly before, and after, the passing of his father Glenn (my husband).  I loved that he was as stubborn as his father, but both had hearts of gold, infectious personalities, gift of the gab, an endearing recklessness and an amazing ability to ‘connect’ warmly with people, even with total strangers.   

I was happy for our long conversation last night Ali.  Please always remember that both science and religion teaches us that a person’s spirit and energy never dies but gets absorbed into the universe.  Damon had tons of spirit and energy so you can be sure that he will always be around to protect you no matter where you are.

Damon was the kind of person who seemed to know everyone. He was always always willing to help, and if he couldn’t help you himself, he knew someone who could. He was endlessly willing, genuinely kind, and carried a smile that was completely infectious. Damon had a way of lighting up a room the moment he walked into it. His presence was always welcome, and always felt.

No matter what he was doing or where he was headed, Damon would make sure to say hello… even if he was on his way out as you were just walking in. That small gesture said so much about who he was: thoughtful, attentive, and deeply connected to the people around him.

Some of our favorite memories together with Damon were spent in Cape Cod. Those were times when the entire extended family came together, when our busy lives slowed down. We laughed, we cooked, we ate, we shared stories, and we reminisced. Those moments were simple, joyful, and full of love… and always made brighter by Damon’s presence.

We will forever miss Damon, but his bright light will always shine. His kindness, warmth, and the way he made people feel seen will live on in the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to know him.

Damon was always the kindest soul. He never missed a birthday or holiday text, always making those around him feel remembered and loved. Damon taught us all how a simple text can brighten your day and how impactful staying connected can be regardless of location. 

Damon always had a person to call or a connection to make. He is the guy who knew a guy for everything and was always willing to make the connection to make others’ lives easier.

We will miss Damon’s gentle heart, his infectious laugh, and his genuine nature. He was the best cousin, and we will miss him every day.

I’ll always remember how Damon approached every trip like an adventure shared among friends. Whether it was walking along the Halifax Wharf, driving through the winding roads of Cape Breton, or taking in the bright lights of Las Vegas, what truly stood out wasn’t the scenery but Damon himself—always the first to say yes, the first to laugh, the first to make the moment easier for everyone. He’d go any distance just to be there, never out of obligation but out of joy for the people he loved. Traveling with Damon meant the journey was never just about where we were going; it was about being together.

We are all so very saddened by the sudden passing of Damon. We will definitely miss his jolly laugh, infectious smile and huge heart. May he rest in peace.

Damon will be remembered for his gift of conversation, his generous spirit, and the way he made everyone feel instantly welcome. We could talk for hours, so long it felt like our ears might fall off and still never run out of things to say. He had a warm, genuine spirit that made myself and Noah feel welcome and valued the moment we met him. He was kind, encouraging, and deeply supportive especially of Ali, always lifting her up in her life and friendships. Damon had a way of bringing people together and making them feel at ease, and that is how I will always remember him.

Daman will always be remembered for the kindness of his heart and for overall being a genuinely good person. His kindness and generosity will not be forgotten. Daman would open up his home and his cottage to everyone, welcoming friends, family, and even new faces with open arms. Those spaces were always filled with warmth, laughter and constant jokes. Above all else, he will also be remembered for his unwavering love to Ali. Together, it was never a dull moment, always laughing and bringing joy to everyone around them. Daman, thank you for letting us have girls days in the US and at the cottage with Ali, and for putting up with listening to us obnoxiously laugh and gossip. You will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing you.

I remember the exact moment when I met Damon. It was well before Rory and I started dating - I was still in high school and working as a cashier at Tops. I even remember the cash register I was at, way at the end by the bakery. He rolled through, purchasing party supplies  and immediately says - “I know you. You’re Sara Francis. You’re the one who lives in East Aurora but goes to Orchard Park….”, and he continued to list off random facts of who he knew that knew me, etc. It took me by surprise and certainly left a lasting impression. 
Little did I know then that this was the first experience of the epitome for who Damon was. This guy held the winning lead for connections all over this world - it is something he had a special talent for, and something he took great pride in. 
It’s these connections that are filling our conversations now, as we are navigating informing everyone and putting together plans to honor his memory. The very effect and impact any one person hopes to have even a small percentage of when their time comes. 
To that end, may we honor Damon by cherishing the connections we have - particularly those that he created for us and are bringing us together during this time. What a gift he has given each of us to carry from this day forward - and next time you meet someone that has a connection to Damon, know that’s him saying ‘hey’.

Damon has been a part of our family since before Sandy Bay Road was Sandy Bay Road and while he was never on time, not once, when he did finally arrive it was always with a giant smile and a booming laugh.
