Dorothy L. Borrello (nee Skiba) passed away at home on October 22, 2020. Born to Stanley and Nora Skiba on June 3, 1925, she lived her 95 years with an unmatched zest for life and an uncanny ability to instantly make people feel welcomed and comfortable. Dorothy loved her family above all else and blessed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with her quick wit, listening ear, and constant encouragement. There is nothing that made her prouder than the accomplishments of those she loved. Dorothy lived a happy life. She enjoyed playing a good game of cards and taught all of her grandchildren to play gin rummy and cinch. She was a great cook, and although she was proud of her Polish heritage, her delicious spaghetti sauce and crusty homemade bread were always a hit around the dinner table. Conversations with Dorothy were lively and informative; she enjoyed sharing stories of her earlier years, politics, and writing personalized poems or sentiments on every birthday card. She enjoyed reading mysteries, the Buffalo Bills, and playing her lotto numbers. Dorothy was the loving wife of her husband of thirty years, Samuel Borrello, who predeceased her. She was a wonderful mother to Mary Jo (Paul) Murak of East Aurora, NY, Ralph (Angie) Borrello of Charlotte, NC, and Peggy (Scott) Hooker of Livonia NY; cherished grandmother to Katie (Greg) Gillette, Stephen (Catherine), and Julie Murak, Chris (Jackie) and Kevin Hooker, and Emily, Sam, Caroline, and James Borrello; and dearest great-grandmother to Lucas and Amira Murak, and Evelyn and Mary Clare Gillette. She is also survived by her sister, Mamie Siders, of California, and her brother-in-law, Rich Adamski, of Pennsylvania, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Lawrence Skiba, and many extended members of the Borrello and Skiba families. The family will be present on Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 5-7 pm at the Wood Funeral Home, 784 Main Street, East Aurora. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 520 Oakwood Avenue, East Aurora. Internment at Nativity of Our Lord Cemetery in Orchard Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which was her favorite charity.

So many of us to whom you opened your heart and made us part of your family have a whole in our hearts today. But we will do our best to fill it with memories of you. The lessons we learned from you are to be kind and patient, to make some time for yourself, organize your closet, keep a good snow brush in your car, enjoy that first sip of beer, and always vote for the Democratic ticket. Give Sam a hug from me. You and Sam will always be in my heart and in memories.
