Elmer W. Rook

Devoted husband of Barbara Jean (Bramer) Rook, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage after meeting as students at Utica Free Academy.

Born to Elmer Frederick Rook and MaryEllen (Frazier) Rook; predeceased by siblings James A. Rook, Mary Talerico, Shirley Knapp and survived by sister Margaret Smith.

After graduating from UFA, Elmer went on to attend basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and proudly served in the United States Army Reserves from 1956 to 1964.

In 1960, Elmer began his career with United Parcel Service (UPS) as a driver. Through his dedication, hard work, and leadership, he rose through the ranks and retired in 1993 as Head of Human Resources for the Eastern Division.

Elmer was an avid hunter and fisherman who found great joy in the outdoors. He possessed a remarkable talent for pen-and-ink drawing, creating works that are proudly displayed in establishments both locally and in Bokeelia, Florida, where he and Barbara spent more than twenty winters enjoying the sunshine and friendships they found there.

Above all, Elmer cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Jean; his children, James A. Rook (Lori), Jeanne M. Moore (Mark), John P. Rook (Patricia), Joseph E. Rook (Deborah), Jennifer L. Dustin (Daryl), and Jeffrey M. Rook (Sandy); twelve grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Elmer W. Rook Jr.

A faithful parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church since 1976, Elmer served his church community as a Eucharistic Minister and lived his faith through quiet service, kindness, and devotion to others.

Elmer also leaves behind the memory of two beloved dogs, Maggie and Sadie Mae, who surely greeted him with wagging tails and eager hearts.

He will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, strong work ethics, artistic gifts, deep faith, and appreciation for the natural world. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the family he nurtured, and the many memories shared by those who knew and loved him.

No prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, 6441 Seneca St, Spring Brook, NY 14140, on August 8, 2026 at 11 am. Mass of Christian Burial and interment are open to the public. Please assemble at church.
