More than 50 years ago Dick had my respect at HCS.  I remember an October afternoon in 1962 when he was coaching us in a soccer game and we and he were wondering if he'd be called up during the Cuban missile crisis. Teacher, mentor, coach and patriot; I'll remember him forever.  My condolences to his family, who've lost a great man.

Mr. Rugg always had the best smile and energy around us teenagers.  I really liked him and respected him as a drivers Ed teacher and coach.  One piece of advice he gave us, which I will never forget, involves evading a drunk driver. "If you ever think someone has been drinking, never pass them.  Stay behind 'em or you could be rear-ended by them further up the road."  I send my condolences, to all the Ruggs, especially Laurie.

Thanks Mr. Rugg for your patience in teaching Drivers Ed and coaching.  Our Drivers Ed vehicle was never quite the same.  God Bless.

I've been flooded with memories of the Allegany camping trips on Kaiser Trail the Logel's and Rugg's did together for so many years. I can hear Dick's laugh as clear as a bell (and Bobbi's!)  My love and thoughts to all the Rugg's- you are in our hearts and prayers.

Mr. Rugg left a lasting impression on me as a Holland Central student in the 60's. Thank you Mr. Rugg. You helped me become who I am today. I am still playing soccer, because of your influence. Rest in peace.

I am so sad that the beautiful Rugg family is going through these difficult days.  To know what a wonderful man Mr. Rugg was, you only have to look at his loving daughter. We should all be so lucky to have someone who loves and cares for us as much as Laurie loves her Dad. You all have all my sympathy as you go through this time of heartache and loss.

My condolences to the Rugg family. I had the privilege of spending time at the Rugg home when our 9th grade band practiced in the living room or garage. I also had the privilege of Mr. Rugg's instruction in driver's ed, and his coaching in soccer. I'll never forget the pre-game isometrics on the bus! He'll be missed...

Deepest sympathy to  the Rugg family. Mr. Rugg was a great teacher and wonderful man. He and Bobbie raised such a kind loving family with deep family values which they carry on today. He has left this world but his memory lives on. All his students from Holland Central remember him with love.. He was a great driver ed. instructor as well. We had a lot of fun. He will be missed.

I remember how tall and straight Mr. Rugg stood, head and shoulders above the rest, in more ways than one.  He was kind and spoke gently but was not a push over (his military training, no doubt). Alabama football had"Bear" Bryant as coach, but we were lucky enough to have coach Rugg at Holland.Standing on the sidelines with his suit,tie,overcoat and Vince Lombardi glasses,he taught all his players three important things;Preperation,Teamwork,and Self-confidence;all attributes I still fall back on to this day.I only wish everyone at Holland had a chance to play under coach Rugg.I want to thank the whole Rugg family for sharing coach Rugg with us!
