Lynora,
I am sorry to hear of your dad’s passing.
Our family had the highest regard for your father and his accomplishments. His easy going manner and gentle sense of humor belied (what I am sure was) a persistence and work ethic that was second to none. In hearing him discuss his dealings/projects, there always seemed to be a fundamental business ethic – things would be done properly, associates would be treated with respect, there were no short cuts to quality outcomes.
My dad – being a small business owner, developer, and somewhat of an entrepreneur – marveled a bit at your father’s developments. In the course of managing some projects (though nothing near the scale of those completed in Idaho), I learned that it takes planning, attention to details and stamina to be successful. I am in awe of projects your father managed and the manner in which they were completed.
Ken and I were both saddened to see Uncle Tink at your mom’s funeral. I am not sure if he would have wanted to linger and decline as she did. In the past your dad always initiated conversation, asking about family and careers, last fall he was so definitely dependent on others.
One memory that seems to stand out was watching a “surround” movie at D-land. Apparently my dad, standing next to yours, was nearly falling over while “leaning into a curve while riding on a fire engine”. Your father loved to poke a little fun at Mel (who was a volunteer firefighter) riding to a fire. They both got a laugh out of it for years.
Unfortunately, Ken and I are both in Florida at this time. We are sorry that we will not be able to make it to East Aurora this weekend for the memorial service. As you are aware, Karla is in the Atlanta area, so she will also be unable to attend. However, our prayers will be with you this Saturday.
Best regards and safe travels to you, Gary and your family.
We were blessed to know Uncle Tink - Thomas Tomlinson.
