Dearest Auntie Gloria, today I am filled with sadness at the news of the passing of our dear Uncle Al. He was the person who helped me choose my first 'real camera" and boy, did he know his stuff. We will truly miss him, his kind, loving and thoughtful ways will always be a reminder of the wonderful person our 'Uncle Al" was. Auntie Gloria our deepest sympathy to you and your entire family, you are in our prayers,

My sister's amazing post gave me an extra push to add some words.  

This is the first time I know what a heavy heart feels like.  With all of these emotions right now, nothing can ever get in the way of how grateful I feel for your presence in my life.  

From the whistling and the bobbing of my head when dozing off on the bus, to the love of bread pudding, I will always have you with me no matter the location or the time.  You have instilled such a strong importance of family and simply the love of life, inside of me.  

You and gram raised me part time throughout my childhood, spoiling me full time.  I could never do wrong in your eyes as your youngest grandchild. You used to let me take every little (sometimes expensive) tchotchke out of gram's cubbards and play with them like toys.  Of course we rushed to put them back before she got home from work.  We used to love to take rides and have picnics on the sides of the highways and motion for the truck drivers to honk.  I loved Friday nights because it meant spending the nights at your house. Times like those will always be some of my favorite memories. 

Gram loves to tell the story about when the swing in the backyard of 756 Saratoga broke. I was very little and said to you "What's the matter dummy, can't you fix it?"  Well...Papa, you fixed so much and more.  More than you ever realized.

I know that carrying your smile in my heart will eventually beat this current heaviness to a pulp.

Dear Papa,

Things are really strange without you. There are reminders of you everywhere...like the clouds, the sky and flowers that you took endless pictures of. You had to get the picture just right and really appreciated the beauty of nature. You also loved birds and had to get just the right feed to attract cadinals and bluejays. You loved Ford cars, searched for the perfect shaving razor and enjoyed a crisp picture on your flat screen TV (you had to return a few until you found the right picture). You always enjoyed a great meal and had a great appetite. Of coarse grandmas cooking was always preferred and the best, but you had your favorite ouside meals. At Jeveli's you loved clams casino and a salad, at Chilli's you ate the chicken wings and ribs, you loved lobster rolls and spaghetti from Papa Ginos and chicken chow mein from Great Chef to name a few, and no matter how full you were you always had room for desert with a HOT cup of coffee. You loved the White Moutains in New Hampshire, the YaYa house at Indian Head and the fall leaves in the beginning of October (that was when they were their brightest colors). You loved your country, was a bible man and had unwavering faith in God. You were a man of great integrity, loyalty and wisdom. Most of all, you were a family man that gave unconditional love to his family. I will miss how you laughed at a joke or something silly one of the kids did...you would suddenly look up to the ceiling, mouth wide open, hands clapping with a loud HA HA HA! Or if there was a sly remark or the kids were trying to get away with something you would tuck your chin, sqeeze your eyes shut, put 2 fingers to your lips to try and prevent a concealed approving devilish laugh. I will miss stories of your growing up on the farm, and your time on the USS Hamilton. There are so many things to miss, but most of all I will miss the way it felt when you patted me on the cheek and said, "Hi Doll" or when you were surprised to see me and said, "Hey Baaaaby." I will miss the sound of your voice with that ever so slight lingering southern drawl and the feel of your hug. You are an amazing man, my papa, and I will forever love you. When you get settled in I am still waiting for that pat on my shoulder.

Al and Gloria, You are an amazing couple.  I was so sad to hear of Al's passing.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Aunt Gloria, Aleta and Ronnie - I will cherish always my childhood memories of Uncle Al and this country girl's train trip to the big city.  You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love and miss you Uncle Al.

To Auntie Gloria, Lanzillis, and Overtons, so very sad to hear about Uncle Al.  He had the greatest laugh and smile.  I will miss him.  What a wonderful family and long life.  Love you all.

I am glad I was able to met Al.  He was always kind, loving and accepting of me.  I could see that Rich was a truly special person by the people, like his grandfather, in his life.  I may not have known him for much time but he will live in my heart to the end. Please know I am truly sorry for your loss and he will be greatly missed.
