

Albert J. Stankevich, 96, of East Hartford, died, May 3, 2016. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Matthew and Antoinette (Kutlulis) Stankevich. He was a self-employed organic farmer and farmed his 5 acres in East Hartford for many years. Al was a World War II United States Navy Veteran and faithfully served his country from 1943-1946. He worked at Colt Firearms upon his discharge from the service, later at Pratt & Whitney. Al started multiple businesses in paving, delivery and construction services and pioneered the trash removal service. He was pre-deceased by his wife Dorothy (Day) Stankevich, March 22, 2011. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, among them James Ladue and his wife Bev of South Windsor, John Ladue of Dublin, NH, Thomas Dougela of Georgia, Raymond Dougela of CA, Carol Ladue of South Windsor, Christine Condel and her husband Michael of Ellington, Beverly Pitrone and her husband Tony of Amston, Marge Clay of Berlin, Claire Pizzola of Brooklyn, CT, Nancy Day-Nadeau of Waterbury and Toni Stone of Rhode Island. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sisters Valeria Dougela, Della Stone and Helen Ladue. The family would like to thank the Brookdale South Windsor staff and Beacon Hospice of East Hartford for their dignified and compassionate care they provided for Al. The Life Well Celebrated service will be Saturday May 7, 9:30AM at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Burnside Avenue, both in East Hartford. Visiting hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4-7PM and Saturday from 8:30-9:30AM.
