

Alice was born in Mt. Vernon, MO in 1922 and moved to South Glastonbury in 1933. Alice graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1940 and immediately went to work for Hart Manufacturing in Hartford as an inspector. Once World War II started, she went to work for Hamilton Standard in East Hartford as an inspector of parts for airplane engines. She met her husband in 1943 and they married in 1944. After World War II, they settled in East Hartford where she resided until 2001. Alice always enjoyed seeing her large family at card parties, picnics, and family vacations at the beach. From the time her husband retired in 1975, they traveled, became long-time members of the East Hartford Senior Center and Alice remained active in the Center almost a decade after her husband passed away in 1993.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Virginia A. Tewksbury of Coventry, and son, Charles B. Tewksbury and his wife, Barbara (Krysiak) of Burlington; grandchildren: Roy P. Merluzzo and his wife, Lisa (Bachiochi) of Tolland, Joseph A. Merluzzo of Coventry, Elizabeth A. (Merluzzo) Fahey of Andover, Brendan, Kathryn, and Austin Tewksbury all of Burlington; great grandchildren: Nicholas, Brandon, Isabelle, and Carson Merluzzo, Amalia, Mia, and Celia Merluzzo, Quinlan, Brody, and Joseph Fahey. She is also survived by her sister Marie (Darby) Miller of South Windsor, and brothers George Darby and his wife, Paula (Osora) of Manchester, William Darby and his wife, Matilda (Mansi) of Glastonbury, and James Darby and his wife, Cynthia (Anderson) of Niantic, sister-in-law Evelyn (Elliott) Darby of Manchester; former son-in-law Joeseph F. Merluzzo of Andover, many nieces and nephews and their children, and several friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Virginia (Carini) Darby of Glastonbury; her brothers, Joseph and his wife Mitzi Darby of Glastonbury, Jack and his wife, June (Clay) Darby, of Glastonbury, Earl Darby of Manchester; her sister, Margaret (Darby) Roman of Glastonbury; her brother-in-law, Howard I. Miller of Manchester; her son-in-law, Jack Gineo, of Coventry; her half-brother, Sam Brown of Glastonbury; and her nephew, James Darby of Rockville.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, June 21 from 5-8 pm at Benjamin J. Callahan/Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 22 at 10:00am at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford.
