Anna Loretta (Bordonaro) Luntta, 87, died peacefully on April 22, 2014. Anna was liked by many, loved by many more, and all were drawn to her infectious joy of life. She graduated from Teachers College of Connecticut (now Central Connecticut State University) and taught for some 35 years in public schools in the area, most notably East Hartford's Hockanum Elementary School, where she taught first grade for the bulk of her career.
Anna, of East Hartford and Glastonbury, later retired to Beverly Hills, Florida with her husband Hans, and for some 20 years traveled to such countries as Italy, Finland, Mexico, and Fiji, and often attended Finnish festivals and gatherings throughout North America. She was an avid member of Italian-American clubs in Connecticut and Florida, and was president of the Garden Club of Beverly Hills. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, and square-dancing, and was a lifelong collector of antique Carnival glass.
Anna was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Hans K. Luntta, in 2008. She leaves behind but not abandoned a large extended family including her sons Mark Luntta and his wife Naida of Andover, Karl Luntta and his wife Phyllis of Albany, New York, and Hans Jr. of Miami; grandchildren Kaarlo, Jack, Nikki, Danilo Arcenas, Allisa (and Mike) Cronin, and Wesley Arcenas in memoriam; great grandchildren Julia, Lily, and Jack Cronin; brother Paul (and Angela) Bordonaro, sister Rose Iacino, sister-in-law Viola Vienot, and many, many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses of the Buckingham Memory Care facility in Glastonbury where Anna resided for the last six years of her life.
She is, in death, as she was in life -- loved deeply, never forgotten.
Friends and family are welcome to gather Saturday, April 26th at 11:00 AM, at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT for a period of visitation with a Funeral Service starting at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Florida at a later date. To visit Anna’s online tribute and leave a message of condolence, please visit www.newkirkandwhitney.com.
