

Carl Joseph Lacey, 82, longtime resident of East Hartford, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Carl was the beloved husband of Etta J., Lacey for 59 years. Carl was born on August 29, 1932, in Cincinnati OH, a son of the late Carl Henry & Julia Angeline (Joseph) Lacey. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was involved in community activities; a Webelo Boy Scouts Leader, East Hartford Little League Treasurer and a softball coach. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and was an avid Pinochle player. Carl was a dedicated UConn Women’s basketball and Red Sox Fan; if they were playing, he was watching! Carl was employed for many years as Quality Control Manager at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Afterwards, he dedicated his retirement to the service of others, young and old. Carl was able to talk to anyone, was well-liked and will be missed by all. Carl will be dearly missed by his wife Etta (Knupp), and their children: Lisa Lacey of Murfreesboro, TN, Carla Blair and her husband Tim of S. Windsor, and Stephen Lacey and his wife Margaret of Pittsburgh, PA. His grandchildren, Sarah Goldberg along with her husband Alexander, and Megan Lacey also will miss him very much. He is also survived by his niece and nephew, Frost and Troy, and their families. In addition to his parents, Carl is predeceased by his brother Ralph Lacey. Friends and family are invited to attend a period of visitation of Friday, Sept. 5, 2014 from 9-11am at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, CT 06108. A Celebration of Life service will follow immediately at 11am at the funeral home, concluding with Military Honors. Burial will be private.
