

Carol D. Haught 77, wife of Alan F. Haught since 1959, of South Glastonbury passed away October 18, 2012 peacefully in her sleep at home. Carol, born June 21, 1936 in Boston, was the daughter of the late Miriam Maxwell Dixon and A. Imrie Dixon of Melrose Highlands, MA. She graduated salutatorian of the class of 1953 at Melrose High School where her father was Principal and attended Ohio Wesleyan University, class of 1957, graduating with a double major in math and geology. Carol applied her math skills working as a Fortran programmer through the late 1950's at the Esso (Exxon) Research Center and Princeton University. Upon her marriage to Alan in 1959 she began her life's calling as loving and supportive wife, caring and involved mother to their four children, and in turn doting grandmother to their thirteen grandchildren. When the children moved on to begin their own lives she reentered the workforce, acquiring a degree in accounting and working as accountant at the Children's Museum of Connecticut and at Designer Fabrics, both of West Hartford. In addition to her husband, she is survived and will be fondly remembered by her son David and his wife Annamarie of Glastonbury; daughters Katherine and her husband Tom Wandell of Seattle, WA, Susan and her husband Joseph Harten of Cincinnati, OH, and Deborah Fischer of Franklin, MA; brother Robert Dixon of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law Nancy Dixon of Salt Lake City, UT; daughter-in-law Tricia and her husband David Foley of New York City, NY; grandchildren Katie, John, and Scott Wandell, Spencer, Weston, Kelsey, Calvin, Tristan, and Jackson Haught, Graeme and Cartland Harten, and Alex and Camille Fischer; nephew Mark Dixon; and nieces Jennifer Simmons, Susan Heiner, and Heather Dixon.
Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, October 22 at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 23 at the First Church of Christ Congregational, 2183 Main Street, Glastonbury, followed by burial at Hubbard Green Cemetery, Hubbard Street, Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory for Alzheimer's research at alzinfo.org/donate.
