

Born in Houtzdale, Pa, and moved to New York City. He served his country admirably during WW ll as a submarine mechanic on both the USS Silversides and the USS Piranha. After an honorable discharge in 1948, he moved to back to New York where he worked until he and his wife moved to East Hartford, Ct. He managed Mellen, White and Palshaw Garage on Burnside Avenue for 30 years. After retiring, he started his own businesses on the side such as landscaping, helping his less capable friends with rides to appointments and errands and owning cartoon machines in businesses around Ct and Mass. Mr. Novak was no doubt a man not afraid of hard work. In his life he managed to accomplish all of this while staying in love with his wife, Virginia, for 65 years and raising 10 children.
He is survived by his beautiful bride, Virginia, his sons, Chester of Fla., Daniel of Manchester, Ct, Patrick and his wife Anne of Glastonbury, Ct, Michael and wife Deborah of FL, Peter of South Windsor, Ct, Anthony and wife Jamie of SC. His daughters, Sandra and Kelley Philbrook of Glastonbury Ct, Mary and Kevin Lane of SC, Susan and Paul Barnett of East Hartford, Ct and Judy Barney and Vincent Costen of East Hampton, Ct. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Chester is also survived by a brother, Joseph Novak of East Hartford.
Funeral Services will be Friday September 3rd at 11 AM in the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, followed by the funeral liturgy at 12:00 PM at St. Christophes Church . Burial with military honors will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
