

Claire (Lavoie) Miller 93, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully at Manchester Manor, on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010. She was the widow of Walter P. Miller Sr. who was a printer for many years at Travelers Insuance Co. She was born in Hartford, December 28th, 1916, the daughter of the late Emile Joseph and Georgianna (Benoit) Lavoie.
Claire lived in East Hartford with her husband Walter for over 60 years, later moving to the Lodge in Rocky Hill. After she wed Walter, he served his country in the United Sates Navy during WWII while Claire raised three small children at home. She was a Manager of Operations at the Hartford National Bank on Main Street. Claire was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Seton and St. Mary’s Church in East Hartford. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt who brought joy, comfort and happiness to those around her, and she absolutely adored her grandchildren. Claire was a remarkably charitable woman, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a number one fan of the Boston Red Sox. She was a remarkably charitable and compassionate person who enjoyed playing cards, reading and singing with the Singing Buddy’s at the Lodge. Spending time with Claire was always enjoyable and pleasant. She will be profoundly missed by her family and to those who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Walter P. Miller Jr. and his wife Anne of Manchester, her daughter, Marjorie Bellingham and her husband Philip of East Hartford, her sisters, Aldea Leniart of East Hartford and Julie Girouard of South Windsor, her brother, Ray Lavoie of Rocky Hill; her grandchildren, Martin Miller, Clare Burti, Lisa Flynn and Ann Marie Wood ; five great grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle and Carli Flynn, Anthony and Gianna Burti; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Claire is predeceased by her son, Michael Miller and her three sisters Helen Thibault, Theresa Choinski and Annette Howard.
Claire’s Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Dec. 11th, 10 am at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 280 Brook St., Rocky Hill. Burial will follow in Veteran’s Memorial Field of Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Claire’s memory to charity of donor’s choice.
