David was born September 30, 1947 in Newburgh, NY., a son of the late Leonard and Alma (Engh) VanTassell. He attended Weaver High School and graduated from Hartford Public High in 1965.
David played basketball until Sophomore year after losing his best friend on the court. He was an avid golfer for 35 years, and was a member of the East Hartford Men's Golf Club. He was also an avid pool player.
David worked as a rural carrier for 30 years at the Avon Post Office, retiring in 2003, after his 30 years of loyal service.
He is predeceased by his step-brother Sherman Iverson of Great Falls, MT., step-sisters Katherine (Iverson) Bernier, Joane (Iverson) Freeman, both of FL.
David had three loves of his life: his step-daughter he raised from age of 1 1/2 Kristen Pastula, his two daughters "Trish the Dish" VanTassell and Bryn "Brinski" VanTassell. He is also survived by his brother Leonard VanTassell and his wife Marje of FL., and his best friend, his beloved cat Lexi.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Foundation.
All are welcome to attend a period of visitation on Friday, December 28, 5-7PM at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT. A Celebration of David's Life will commence immediately following at 7pm at the funeral home.
