Donald Francis "Don" O'Connor, 69, of Groton, Connecticut, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 26, 2026, in New London, Connecticut. Born on July 13, 1956, in Hartford, Connecticut, Don was the son of the late Leo and Doris O'Connor. He graduated from East Hartford High School. He was raised in the Catholic faith and lived a life marked by quiet kindness and humility. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Doris O'Connor, and his brother, Kevin O'Connor. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Tara O'Connor; son, Ryan O'Connor (Koda); grandchildren, Aislyn and Bjorn. He is also survived by brothers, Brian O'Connor (Tammy), James O'Connor, and Timothy O'Connor (Carolyn); sisters, Kathleen Garry (Bruce) and Doreen O'Connor; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends including Laura.
Groton was home to Don, where he enjoyed the beauty of Connecticut's shoreline, especially spending time at Harkness Memorial State Park. He found joy in life's simple pleasures—a deep appreciation for United States history, a lifelong love of Star Wars, evenings listening to The Beatles and Irish Ballads. Loved working on cars with Bob Rice and the Thursday night garage gang. He also treasured memories of growing up around his grandfather, James Dagon's, gas station, where his fascination with automobiles first took root.
The White Mountains of New Hampshire and Lake Winnipesaukee were like a second home to him. Starting at the age of 13 he spent many summers in Moultonboro where he will be brought to final rest.
Don was a gentle soul with a quirky sense of humor, quiet wit, kind heart, and easygoing nature. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Calling hours and a remembrance service will be Tuesday, July 7th from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at Benjamin J. Callahan Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, CT. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
