Born on February 2, 1948, in Hartford, Edward lived a life defined by dedication, courage and love. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and went on to devote 40 years of service to the United States Postal Service, where he was admired for his reliability, integrity, and friendly spirit.
Edward faced life's challenges with quiet strength and determination. He courageously battled leukemia for more than 20 years and, more recently, fought non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with the same grace and resilience that defined every part of his life. Through every hardship, he remained positive, strong-willed, and deeply grateful for the time he shared with those he loved. His strength, perseverance, and unwavering optimism were an inspiration to all who knew him.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Tina Lonergan; his son Evan Lonergan, and daughter-in-law, Amanda Lonergan; his daughter, Diana Theriault, and son-in-law, Michael Theriault; his cherished grandchildren, Jolene Lonergan, Landon Theriault, Chloe Theriault, and Sage Bass; and his adored great-grandchildren, Niko, Gianna, and Bella. He also leaves behind his brother, William Lonergan, and his beloved dog, Sophie, who was always by his side.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center, who cared for Edward with compassion, dedication, and kindness for more than 20 years. Their support and friendship meant the world to him and his family.
Edward's legacy of service, devotion, courage, and positivity will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A private service will be held for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edward's memory to the John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center through the Hartford HealthCare donation page https://hartfordhealthcare.org/donate/how-to give.
