

Ethel Mae Scribner 83, longtime resident of East Hartford and formerly of Windham passed away peacefully on September 12, 2011 at Hartford Hospital with her loving family at her side. She was born November 6, 1927 in Hartford a daughter of the late Floyd Allison and Una Cecelia (Brousseau) Scarborough. Ethel was the widow of John A. Scribner, Sr. who predeceased her on September 12, 1997. Ethel was employed by the East Hartford Board of Education and retired after thirty two years. She began as a secretary at East Hartford High School and went on to open Penney High School. Ethel was an avid reader and loved painting, crocheting, gardening and entertaining. She loved spending time at the family lake house in Eastford, CT.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy L. Scribner and partner Rod Dunnells and their standard poodle Miss Priss, with whom she was lovingly cared for and lived with; her son John A. Scribner Jr., his wife Cheryl and their two daughters Alison and Chelsea all of Manchester. Along with both parents and her husband she was predeceased by her 17 year old grandson Jonathan P. Scribner who passed August 5, 2011.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday September 17, 2011 from 3-5PM, followed by her memorial service at 5PM at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford.
