Fernand "Fred" Nadeau, 99, of East Hartford, was born in Quebec, Canada and came to the U.S. in 1957. He is predeceased by Pauline, his beloved wife of 73 years. He worked very hard to provide a happy home for his family and was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary's/North American Martyrs Church in East Hartford, CT. Fernand was a very colorful individual. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and for being a loyal friend. He loved interacting with people and always wanted to help family, neighbors, and friends with their projects. He usually could be found building something in his workshop. There were so many projects, a mere 99 years were not enough for him. In his working years, Fernand was a welder at Electric Boat, Balf Company and Sweet Life Corp. He enjoyed forging, welding and building. He was proud to build the family's vacation home in Vermont with the help of family and friends. Fernand was an avid reader and often said he never wanted to stop learning. His interests were very diversified in that he loved nature, music and following the International Space Station. He was fascinated by technology, still using his computer every day. Fred was very creative and loved a challenge in that he could sketch out his project and stay focused on it to the end. He was very proud to live independently in his own home until this short hospitalization. Fernand enjoyed his role as great grandfather and recently a great-great grandfather. He leaves behind four children, Colette Olexa, husband John of East Lyme, Jocelyne Frazier, husband Daniel of Glastonbury, Jean Luc Nadeau and life partner, Karen Gagliardi of Newington, Denis Nadeau and wife Peggy, of Manchester. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Eric, Kristen, Jonathan, Matthew, Melissa, Nicole, Danielle, Chelsea as well as twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge so many people, especially wonderful lifelong friends, Conrad and Yolande Mathieu. Also, kind neighbors and friends, Marva and Tony Gilkes, Eddy and Eriq Rodriguez, Marisol Acevedo and Lydia, Teddy and Rose Ganger, Ed Frazier, all of whom offered their support. Their help in bringing meals, cleaning the yard, shoveling, giving computer assistance and visiting often was a Godsend for Fernand. Recently, he received assistance by caring aides, Youlande David and Ucella Joseph. Our family will forever be grateful to these wonderful angels.
