

Florence J. Scanlon died peacefully on July 11, 2011, in hospice care at St. Mary Home in West Hartford, CT where she had been a resident for the past two years. She was born on June 25, 1920 and was a life-long resident of East Hartford, until her move to St. Mary Home. Florence graduated from East Hartford High School in 1939. She was employed for 45 years by First Federal Savings Bank of East Hartford, retiring in 1985 as Assistant Treasurer.
She is survived by her nephew, John Scanlon of East Hartford; and nieces, Joanne Sava and her husband Bryan of Tucson, Arizona; Mel Lockhart and her husband Jon Carr of Decatur, Georgia; Kate Lockhart and her husband Jackson King of Ledyard, Connecticut; and Barb Lockhart and her partner, Mary Brennan of Greenfield, Massachusetts. She is also survived by her grand niece, Clare Scanlon and grand nephews, Kris Sava and his wife, Jamie; Michael Carr and his wife, Katharine; Daniel King and Jeremy King. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Charlie Lockhart and her oldest and dearest friend since school days, Louise Thomas of East Hartford.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Ellen (Lane) Scanlon, her brother and sister-in-law, John and Dorothy (Erickson) Scanlon; and her sister, Gertrude (Scanlon) Lockhart.
Visiting hours will be held at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, on Saturday (July 16, 2011) from 8:30-9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Rose Church, 33 Church Street, East Hartford. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
