Dear Mama,

It's too difficult to know my mother is actually gone, but I know we can't live forever. Though, we think for whatever reason, they will be around. I know my mother's spirit is only sleeping until the last trumpet sounds. So, I don't want to say goodbye. I have many fond memories of my mother from her doing my hair to her buying me happy meals at McDonald's. I will always remember what she tried to do for me and the sacrifice it took to raise four kids pretty much by herself. I think fondly on the days when she was in the kitchen preparing Sunday dinner. Those were the days when you were in good health. I remember her coming on the bus with me when I was being bullied. You said, "if anybody puts their hands on my baby again, you and your mamie will have to answer to me". That bully never bothered me, again. I remember coming home from school with a brand new wardrobe on the bed waiting to be worn for the summer. I remember her sending me to acting school in New York because she saw something. I know in my heart that you are never far from my heart because everything you taught me about the world and people was for my own good. Even though, she had a forceful way in showing her love, she was always a mother who tried to protect her offspring from the wicked ways of the world. I will never be able to express what a strong, wise, and dominant force my mama was, but I know in my heart her spirit lives on in me everyday. She was a mother who cared and only wanted to protect her children from the ways of the world. For that reason, she will always be remembered for being a great mother who tried to do her best. That's all any child can hope for...a mother who cared and protected her young. I will love and miss you, mama, always and forever. Rest in peace.
