George Edward Linde, 89, of East Hartford, died on July 23, 2015. He grew up on Hawthorne St., in Hartford, and was the son of the late Carl & Elizabeth Linde. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Bernice, brothers William, David and sister Marion.
He proudly served as a signalman in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944-1946, graduated from Hillyer College in 1951 and in 1954 married Bernice, his beloved wife of almost 50 years. He worked for Allen Manufacturing before moving on to Metropolitan Life Insurance but his most satisfying experience was as a substitute teacher in the East Hartford school system from 1985-1993. He truly made an impact with the kids.
He leaves behind his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren that he was so very proud of: Susan and David Thatcher of Willington, CT., grandchildren Michael and Linde, Cheryl and Paul Cusumano of Hobe Sound, FL., and Judy and Scott Hiestand of Ellington, CT., grandchildren Jessica and Emily.
George was an incredibly kind and strong man who enjoyed ballroom dancing and his friends at the senior center. He will be greatly missed and was a blessing to us all. A calling hour will be held on Monday, July 27th, 9:30-10:30am at Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford. A Funeral Liturgy will follow immediately at 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will conclude services in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
We want to extend our thanks to Dr. Murphy-Setzko, the St. Francis CICU and Palliative Care staff for all their compassion, support and love during this difficult period. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.newkirkandwhitney.com
