

Gerard J. Cormier, 92, longtime resident of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 24, 1921, in Notre Dame, Canada, a son of the late Albert and Elise (Melanson) Cormier. Gerard was the beloved husband of the late Dorilla Cormier.
Gerard served proudly in the Canadian Army, was a well-respected bricklayer often personally requested for his outstanding quality of craftsmanship. He was a member of the local Bricklayers Union for over 50 years and longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a talented gardener. Spending time with his family was his greatest enjoyment, passing along a legacy of hardwork ethic, compassion and devotion to friends and family.
Gerard will be dearly missed by his daughter Teri Nixon and her husband Alan of Hebron, his cherished granddaughter Nathalie Cooney and her husband Shamus of Marlborough, and great grandchildren; Aiden, Hailey and Avery Cooney. He is also survived by sisters; Anita and Bernice, brothers; Eloi and Emery, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Gerard is predeceased by brothers; Eric, Neri, August, Zoel, Acquila and a sister; Lorraine.
Gerard was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother & uncle.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 19th 2014, from 5-7pm at the Benjamin J. Callahan Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, CT 06108. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 20th, at 10:30am at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 538 Brewer St., East Hartford. Everyone is asked to meet at church.
